Kirklees Council – David Shepard, Strategic Director of Growth and Regeneration Four major projects comprise the £250m Huddersfield Blueprint which comprises the creation of a Cultural Heart and Town Park near the University of Huddersfield, an enhances Station Gateway, improving the New Street Area of the Town Centre with investment into mixed use space, replacing the Bus Station and rethinking Cross Church Street. Shabir joins the event to give an update on this as well as the Dewsbury Blueprint which will see 3500 new homes delivered in the next decade. Network Rail – Matthew Rice, Route Director for North and East Construction has commenced on a new station at White Rose in Leeds – the £26.5 million project is being delivered by Network Rail in partnership with the West Yorkshire Combined Authority, Leeds City Council, Munroe K and the Department for Transport it is seen as a major project to drive economic growth in the region. Located between Morley and Cottingley on the main trans-Pennine route to Manchester via Huddersfield, the two-platform station will improve access to the adjacent White Rose office park, shopping centre and bus interchange. As Route Director for the region Matthew will be well placed to discuss this scheme, the recent £161m sustainable expansion at Leeds station and their future upgrades and expansion plans for the region. Glenbrook – Daniel Roberts, Senior Development Manager Manchester based developer Glenbrook has submitted a detailed planning application for a £150 million 618 unit BTR scheme on Kirkstall Road on the banks of the River Aire in Leeds. Their proposals include over 10,000 sq ft of amenity space including residents lounge, co-working hub and gym, 3,800 sq ft of commercial space and 6,000 sq ft of private external terraces. Glenbrook have also just announced a £280m JV with Town Centre Securities to deliver 500+ BTR units in the centre of Leeds which will also include a multi-storey car park. Daniel is leading on these schemes on behalf of Glenbrook and will be well placed to discuss their investment in Leeds and their future plans for the wider West Yorkshire region. Sustrans – Avril Sanderson, Principal Urban Designer Sustrans are one of the UK’s leading organisations on developing green infrastructure with an extensive track record of delivering schemes in Yorkshire. Avril will be on hand to discuss how they are collaborating with a number of top level developers and local authorities across West Yorkshire and the North of England to ensure green walking and cycling infrastructure features heavily across a number of the region’s transformational developments – while unveiling her organisation’s future strategy and their role in aiding the march to net zero. HBD – Tom Wheldon, Director & Head of Yorkshire & North East Region HBD are one of the most active private sector developers in the North Yorkshire region. They are currently developing a £107m scheme on the site of the former Terry’s chocolate HQ. Aptly titled, The Chocolate Works, the scheme will see the delivery of 163 individually designed apartments where the main multi-storey factory once was, as well as 22 bespoke apartments within The Clock Tower building. The Chocolate Works will also include a new brain surgery hospital creating 145 healthcare jobs, and retaining a vital health service in the city following the closure of The Retreat. Mott MacDonald – Lisa Littlefair, Leeds City Director Lisa is the cities account lead for Leeds and her background is in economic development. She works to connect the multi-disciplinary expertise across Mott MacDonald with the challenges and opportunities within the Leeds City Region to generate benefit to people, places and the economy. Lisa is interested in how digital innovation can drive the delivery of inclusive and sustainable solutions. University of Huddersfield – Tim Hosker, Director of Estates and Facilities Outline plans were revealed last year for the University of Huddersfield’s new Health Innovation Campus on the site of the old sports centre. The £250m investment will see the 6.6-acre parcel of land sub-divided into seven key development plots, with the first phase comprising a “landmark building” of approximately 5,000sqm. Tim is leading on the development for the university and will be on hand to reveal more intel on the scheme as well as discussing the uni’s future estates expansion plans, and the wider impact of the university on the town and region in retaining talent and educating the future skilled workforce of West Yorkshire. West Yorkshire Combined Authority – Liz Hunter, Director of Policy and Development Delivering major investment into transport infrastructure places heavily on the list of priorities of the team at the Combined Authority and as part of this session Liz will talk about the plans for a West Yorkshire Transit Network while also discussing creating opportunity in each of the five West Yorkshire boroughs through improving connectivity.
