Plans for the £1.9bn Smithfield Birmingham regeneration project have been submitted.

The development of residential, commercial and leisure facilities is set to create thousands of jobs.

Birmingham City Council appointed Lendlease, an international real estate and investment group to prepare the hybrid proposals.

Permission has been sought for approximately 3,000 residential units, along with 274,000 sq ft of co-living space and a hotel.

The plans for the development will retain the Bull Ring Indoor Market building and its multi-storey car park.

A spokesperson from Lendlease said: “The regeneration of Smithfield Birmingham is an exceptional opportunity to define and celebrate the next chapter of Birmingham city centre’s transformation, strengthen its reputation as an international city and reflect the aspirations of the local community.”
