Mole Valley District Council (MVDC) has opened proceedings on finding a 50/50 construction partner for its £200m scheme to redevelop a huge swathe of Leatherhead town centre.

Firms have until April 23rd to register their interest in a mixed-use redevelopment project affecting two pivotal freehold sites – The Swan Centre and Bull Hill.

The two locations are interlinked with a combined area of 4.1 hectares and aim to deliver approximately 450 new homes, a repositioned retail offer, integrated community spaces, improved car parking and high-quality public realm. MVDC is looking to appoint the new venture partner in early 2022.

Cabinet Member for Projects, Coun Keira Vyvyan-Robinson, said: “Here we have all the ingredients to create a successful and vibrant place; able to capitalise on the town’s history, its retail core, and to provide an essential link between the different parts of the town centre whilst creating new homes and workspaces.

“What will be truly transformational is the creation of a legacy for the town; a place for people that stands the test of time as an exemplar of sustainable development.”

MVDC is looking for a partner to take the lead on design development of each site, securing all planning and statutory consents, undertaking development, construction management and securing funding as required to enable the redevelopment. This will include marketing of the completed development in line with an agreed business plan and jointly working with MVDC with all consultation and communication with stakeholders.

The redevelopment project forms part of the Transform Leatherhead masterplan, which covers regeneration work in The Riverside, Urban and Retail and Leisure Quarters plus improvements to the road system.
