Manchester property developers Amstone yesterday completed on a former supermarket site in Stockport which is set to be transformed into a £100m build-to-rent-led residential development.

Leach Rhodes Walker have started work on drawing up plans for the 550-home residential scheme, which is made up of apartments, townhouses and a large communal garden. Deloitte are assisting on a consultancy basis.

The 3.28-acre plot was the home of a Sainsbury’s store from 1984 and Amstone is hopeful of submitting a planning application with Stockport Council early next year.

Coun David Meller, Cabinet Member for Economy and Regeneration at Stockport Council, said: “It is great to see the former Sainsbury’s site being brought back into use so quickly, which shows the confidence so many have in our town centre.

“Amstone join the list of developers who are helping to deliver the regeneration of the town centre and this complements our ambitious plans for the town and our reputation as great place to live, work, enjoy and do business.”

The development is in line with recent projects the company has worked on, particularly one at Clippers Quay in Salford for Grainger PLC.

Most recently, Amstone agreed a forward funding deal with One Manchester to deliver 96 new, modern residential units comprising seven townhouses and 89 apartments in Longsight to the north of Manchester city centre.
