Drew Smith Named as Developer for Homes England Scheme Posted on: April 18th, 2020 Developer Drew Smith has secured a contract with Homes England to develop 107 new homes in Portsmouth. The brownfield site, located in Milton, formerly houses St James’ Hospital which closed in 2016. Since then plans have been discussed to transform the Grade II-listed hospital building into new homes but this latest development in the plans seems to be a big step forward. Homes England – who’re speaking on our Solving the UK’s Housing Crisis Webinar – have worked to bring the site forward and now Drew Smith will work on proposals to submit to Portsmouth City Council as they look to achieve planning permission. Proposals for the site include: 107 new homes in totalFamily homesThree new apartment blocks30% affordable housingHomes with family specific disability requirementsDemolition of four existing buildings and the former Harbour School Leanne Smith, Business Development Director at Drew Smith, said: ‘We are really pleased to be working closely with Homes England and Portsmouth City Council to transform this brownfield site with the development of 107 high quality new homes within the grounds of the former St James’ Hospital. A high proportion of these new homes will be delivered across a range of affordable tenures, supporting the local authority and giving local people a fantastic opportunity to rent or buy in their local area.” “As part of Vistry Partnerships, Drew Smith and the wider business has had great success bringing forward new developments via DPP3, and we look forward to continuing this tradition in Portsmouth.” This project is part of a wider plan for the former hospital site – which includes PJ Livesey’s 230-home project and LNT Care Development’s 66-bed care home scheme.
