Tell us a little about FES Group are the work you do?

The FES Group are a sustainability & acoustic consultancy, based in the centre of York.  We are working with some of the UK’s largest developers, housebuilders, contractors and architects to provide Part L & Part E compliance services such as SAP & SBEM calculations, Noise Surveys, BREEAM Assessments, Air Tightness & Acoustic Testing on residential, commercial and mixed use schemes.

What’s your USP for those interested in meeting FES Group at the York Development Plans Event?

As we don’t sub-contract our services out we find that our clients benefit from our directly employed team, providing an efficient and professional service that can also be reactive to a pressing situation.  Our admin support & many of our technical team are based in York and are on hand to service your needs.  We also provide the FES Cloud so that our clients receive up to the minute updates on projects we are engaged on.

What developments have you worked on, or are working on in the Yorkshire region?

Plenty!  Most recently we have worked on the development of 2 new hotels (Roomz & Malmaison), new student accommodation (Mansfield St & Lawrence St), lots of Noise Surveys on conversions in central York and supporting large scale residential development across the region.

How are you finding the current marketplace now that Brexit and the General Election have come to a conclusion – does it feel like it’s going to be a positive year for York?

I have found that since the general election result more projects have been brought forward, that were previously on hold because of the uncertainty.  It will definitely be a positive year and beyond for York and the Yorkshire region as a whole.

The York Central project is going to be a game-changer for the region. What do you think the wider impact will be within the city?

The FES Group expect to see increased inward investment in to York as well as increased visitor numbers which would support the local economy.  There is now a suggestion that the House of Lords may move to York too which could become a key part of the regeneration of the area.

York, with all of its heritage, is a truly unique place to develop. How different is it working within York compared to the surrounding regions?

It’s great to be working in the local area because of the incredible architecture.  This presents different challenges for our clients and we support and advise them in terms of compliance.  By and large York City Council are being more proactive than other local authorities when it comes to sustainability on new schemes

What opportunities did the York Development Plans present for FES Group?

The chance to meet with key decision makers in the industry who are keen to work with local companies who also work across the UK is too good an opportunity.  I see York Central as integral to the continuing growth and redevelopment of York and one that continue to boost investment in the local and wider area.  We are best placed to deliver a multitude of interlinking services across the region and beyond.
