The future vision for Sutton will be showcased at the inaugural UK’s Real Estate Investment and Infrastructure Forum (UKREiiF) this May.

Sutton will be showcasing its flagship projects at UKREiiF, a conference which connects people, places and businesses to accelerate and unlock sustainable, inclusive and transformational investment.

Sutton is a key player in the Opportunity London exhibit having been shortlisted for two UKREiiF awards for Net Zero Place of the Year and Real Estate Project of the Year. Already, Sutton has one of the highest economic activity rates in London (at 82.9%, compared to the 79% London average), advancing London and the UK’s competitiveness within global markets. The borough has also successfully secured £25m in grant funding over the past five years to support regeneration..

The Council will be highlighting the London Cancer Hub as the major investment opportunity for Sutton. The opportunity for investment in life science at Europe’s leading centre for oncology, The London Cancer Hub, will be discussed at a major panel event. The world-class partnership between the Council and The Institute of Cancer Research, supported by the Royal Marsden, underpins the UK’s international role in life-changing research and development, high quality science and tackling cancer. The Hub will have the highest standards of green infrastructure and will be a place that enhances wellbeing and recovery.

The Council has big plans to enhance its green, vibrant and sustainable town centres with outstanding culture, food, shopping, modern flexible working and over 3,000 new homes. Already an attractive and diverse town centre, all upcoming developments will further cement this. Set to open in 2023, Throwley Yard is a new cultural venue set in a former nightclub; and Oru Sutton, a new space for co-working, wellbeing and hospitality, will be breathing life into a disused department store. Having secured £11.35m from the Future High Streets Fund, the Council is set to announce more projects to transform the town centre, cultivate local culture and boost Sutton’s economic recovery from Covid-19 later this year.

Carolyn Dwyer, Strategic Director of Development, Growth and Regeneration, London Borough of Sutton, said: “We are thrilled to be exhibiting Sutton’s fantastic opportunities at the UK’s foremost investment conference. We want to offer Londoners everything they need locally and now is the ideal time to invest in our high streets, local economies and job opportunities.

“Our exciting regeneration strategy includes major plans for the London Cancer Hub, the largest oncology site in Europe and a campus that fuses innovation, research, health care and tackling cancer. With an intriguing brownfield site for development , this is the ideal opportunity for a complementary development that adds value..

“Sutton is a flourishing and green London borough and we are keen to showcase our inclusive  growth strategies for our town centres and high streets across the borough, from repurposing former department stores to building 3,000 new homes. Come and talk to our experts about the myriad opportunities at the Opportunity London exhibit.”

Keith Griffiths, Chief Executive Officer at UKREiiF organiser, Built Environment Networking, said: “Sutton has become one of outer London’s development and investment hotspots – and with projects like the London Cancer Hub it’s easy to see why. This is just one example of how the local authority is leading the way to reimagine Sutton – creating an integrated life science hub that will be a catalyst for prosperity and economic growth across the borough, whilst bolstering the UK’s bid to create healthier places”.

Led by property events company Built Environment Networking and supported by some of the biggest UK property and infrastructure companies, the first annual UKREiiF event will be held in Leeds on 17-19 May 2022. The forum will attract inward investment, generate economic growth and drive a more sustainable and inclusive culture within the property and construction industries.
