Plans to attract more than 6,000 new private sector jobs in Durham has moved a step closer following an endorsement by Durham County Council and the North East LEP. The masterplan will now progress for The Aykley Heads site, which is currently the home of Atom Bank and Salyus House, and a delivery model will follow later this year.

The development has been backed by the North East LEP who’ll be speaking at our North East Development Plans conference in Newcastle next month – where we’ll be hearing about how this and many other projects are set to help the region fulfil its potential.

The business park redevelopment could bring ‘as much as £400m into the economy’ according to experts, whilst also receiving the backing of the North East England Chamber and Durham University. With 1,300 people already employed across the site already across over 40 companies there is already a high volume of interest from a businesses looking to move into the area.

The first of three phases is likely to start in the near future, with the ambitious plans set to transform the site over the next 20 years.
With another great announcement the North East is currently in some very exciting times.
