Ambitious plans to redevelop parts of Leeds General Infirmary (LGI) are ongoing and are set to be a key talking point at the Developing Yorkshire Conference to be held in Leeds on the 17th April. The conference will hear from Linda Pollard, Chair of Leeds Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust.

The redevelopment of LGI will see two new hospital sites which according to Hospital Chiefs will be ‘hospitals of the future’ – and artists’ impressions have been shared of the state-of-the-art facilities. It includes a new healthcare building opposite Millennium Square and the Civic Hall in the centre of the city. The plans also outline a redevelopment of the Children’s Hospital which is currently based at LGI’s Clarendon Wing.

The plans are still subject to certain assessments before being given the go-ahead – but current plans would see the new building built on the old nurses home site. The development is set to be an integral part of the Leeds Innovation District being championed by Leeds City Council after being unveiled last year.

Linda Pollard, who’ll be speaking at the Developing Yorkshire Conference said of the scheme: ”Our hospitals have always been at the heart of the city so I’m extremely pleased that the LGI site is an integral part of the proposed Innovation District with the many opportunities that brings. We are working closely with our partners including the local Universities and Leeds City Council to develop the hospital for future generations, and enable us to continue to provide outstanding services into the 21st century.”

The plans for the area will also see improvements to roads, pedestrian walkways and the creation of open spaces for the community.

Join us to hear from both Leeds City Council and Leeds Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust at the Developing Yorkshire Conference. HS2 and Historic England are also speaking at the conference.
