This is a golden decade of opportunity for our city, which continues to be THE place to live, work and invest.

Birmingham is looking forward with confidence to an exciting future as we transform the city to one which is:

  • Innovative and global where prosperity is shared by all – happy healthy and affordable.
  • Connected and culturally diverse with neighbourhoods that showcase the best environmental quality, resilience, and adaptability.
  • Proud of its unique identity and diversity and embracing technology and creativity, beauty, and imagination.

Prior to Covid, Birmingham was seeing growth at almost twice the rate of London, and four times the national average.

And, while the pandemic has had a profound impact, both economically and socially, the factors that made Birmingham such an attractive place to live, work and invest back in early 2020 remain in place and will now help power our recovery.

In fact, even at a time of such upheaval, we have continued to make progress on a significant number of major projects that are supercharging our recovery, bringing considerable investment to the city and shaping the lives and life chances of Birmingham citizens for years to come.

Transformational projects like Smithfield, Paradise and Peddimore, the fast approaching Commonwealth Games, HS2, Langley, the exciting £700 million+ regeneration of Perry Barr and the planned renewal of Ladywood will shape the lives and life chances of Birmingham citizens for years to come.

A successful Birmingham must also be a cleaner, greener, healthier, and more environmentally sustainable Birmingham.

And as the largest local authority in the country, with the biggest property portfolio, we will utilise those assets in a strategic way to deliver on those priorities for this great city.

We have the assets and the energy and now is the time to be bold to create liveable, vibrant, and affordable places, with thriving town centres and high streets, that attract individuals, families and communities to work, live and visit.

We want citizens and communities as well as investors to reap the rewards of our future success and prosperity and firmly believe we can work together to achieve exactly that.
