Manchester City Council has today approved plans for more than 700 new homes, a secondary school, a park and a community hub. The development will transform the unused land, formerly known as Jacksons Brickworks into a mix of house types including apartments and housing. The properties will be available for various tenures, including affordable rent and shared ownership.

Your Housing Group bought the site in February 2020 and have worked closely with Manchester City Council and local councillors to design the scheme, carrying out two separate rounds of consultation to inform the local residents of the proposals. This approach was taken to ensure that the plans delivered the best outcomes for both the city and the local community.

Jacque Allen, Chief Executive for Your Housing Group, said: “We are absolutely thrilled to have officially secured planning permission for this exciting and significant development. It will completely transform this large site to bring both housing, community, and economic benefits to the area. I would like to thank the team at Manchester City Council for their support, and the local residents who have taken their time to give their input to help us shape a development that will benefit everyone.”

Cllr Gavin White, Manchester City Council’s executive member for housing and development, said: “We know that this site has a huge amount of potential and its redevelopment will be transformational for Newton Heath. Your Housing Group are not only bringing a brownfield piece of land to deliver a large number of low carbon affordable homes for our residents, but they are bringing life back to a major site that has historically been an important part of this community. We also know how welcome the new secondary school, sports facilities and community space will be to local people. This development will prove to be a real exemplar in mixed-use community regeneration.”

Your Housing Group is working in partnership with Mike Riding of Chilton Estates to deliver this exciting new development.
