A new Village Green sits at the heart of the development, creating a focal point for key buildings to front onto. Generous boulevards leading to the Village Green form new pedestrian routes through the site, improving connectivity between the existing neighbourhoods and the Metrolink tram station adjacent to the site.
The Village Green is complemented by several smaller streets and pockets of landscaped areas, which are still public but feel more intimate in character. The proposal also includes a substantial amount of private green space, ranging from individual or shared gardens associated with traditional townhouses, to a large, landscaped terrace above the car park, in the denser corner of the site.
The development seeks to sit in in harmony with its surrounding context, achieved by using a complementary red brick throughout the scheme. Variety is achieved through variations in the shade of brick and in the arrangement of the facades, with some blocks using a regular gridded elevation, while others break up the massing through an irregular pattern of brick piers and glazed openings.
Patterns of projecting brickwork break up the elevations of the rows of terraced townhouses, adding an element of interest along the pedestrian boulevards that run along both ends of the terraces.
Tony O’Brien, Partner from Sheppard Robson, said:
“Lumina Village breathes new life into this underused site, creating a mix of new homes while also greatly increasing connectivity for the local area. Our ambition is that the generous green spaces at the heart of the development quickly become a favourite of both new residents and locals alike.”
