New overground stations at a new transport hub to connect both HS2 and Crossrail has received strong public backing – say Transport for London (TfL). They stated they’d seen ‘strong support’ in the recent public consultation for two potential London overground stations which would provide additional connections to HS2 and the Elizabeth line, providing an interchange with the existing North London and West London lines.

Around 1,000 people responded to the consultation, with a huge 94% supporting the overall plan.

One element of the plan would see a major new station on Old Oak Common Lane that would link the North London Line, Elizabeth (Crossrail) and HS2 rail services linking stations such as Gunnersbury, South Acton and Acton Central. A second station would also be developed on Hythe Road, currently the site of car retailer Car Giant, would provide connections with London Overground’s West London Line linking stations such as Shepherd’s Bush, West Brompton and Imperial Wharf to the transport hub.

The station at Hythe Road received 86% support whilst the Old Oak Common Lane station received 92% backing – although concerned were raised on the distances between the interchange which would be 750m apart. Concerns on the distance, and disrupting the new stations could cause to local residents, will now be considered as design plans continue to be developed.

Alex Williams, Transport for London’s Director of City Planning, said: ”This consultation has shown strong support for these two potential new London Overground stations at Old Oak. We will now consider comments from the consultation and use them to help shape the plans further to ensure we support the regeneration of Old Oak and Park Royal in the most effective way.”

The positive consultation results and concerns raised will now help determine the next steps for the infrastructure development to help build the overall business case, supplementary feasibility studies, funding and operational requirements.
