Q. Qualis Flow is setting out to build an automated data collection and aggregation platform for construction projects called Qflow.  Could you explain how your process represents a step forward for the industry?

Qualis Flow’s technology is engineered to make the tedious and complex task of data collection and analysis on construction sites very simple, and to allow engineering teams to harness the value from their data in a timely fashion. The Qflow tool integrates seamlessly with standard construction workflows and removes the most time consuming and error prone aspects of data aggregation and reporting.

It’s in this area that construction currently suffers the most and needs to see improvements. Inaccurate data leads to inefficient use of resources which negatively impacts both environment and business. Qflow enables a reduction in errors and delivers clarity to projects so they can easily identify where resources are used inefficiently and how to minimise their waste production. Q. Your technology utilises Artificial Intelligence and Machine learning, what do you see as their transformative potential when it comes to construction?

Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Machine Learning (ML) are often seen as technologies that will strip people of their jobs. We highly disagree. These are tools that enable people to do their job more efficiently than they ever have before. Construction is one of the most nuanced and complex industries out there that requires information and collaboration across a wide range of teams. Due to the industry’s complex nature, these teams struggle to communicate in a timely fashion. AI and ML can help bridge the gap between these teams and streamline the construction process in completely new ways.

Q. How does Qflow enable construction teams to track and manage their social and environmental impact?

By automating digitisation of materials tickets and waste transfer notes as they enter construction sites, independent of supply chain systems, Qflow provides direct access to critical information on site. The data is audited in real-time and can feed into cost-control, supply chain management and sustainable reporting tools. This allows teams to build a clear picture of what materials and waste is entering and leaving site, creating transparency of their projects’ environmental impact.

Additionally, project teams are alerted of non-conformances found in the data, allowing them to take immediate action to correct these and avoid costly mistakes that can have a negative impact on the environment and the project. In short, Qflow delivers the right data at the right time.

Q. In what ways can using digital technology eliminate the need for on-site environmental teams?

Similar to our views on AI’s role in construction, we don’t see technology eliminating site teams, but augmenting them. With tools like Qflow dealing with the boring repetitive work and highlighting opportunities, environment, sustainability and commercial teams will have greater capacity to deliver higher quality projects and explore those opportunities to reduce risk, save costs and really impress their clients!

Q. You’ve worked with a number of high-profile organisations, including HS2 and Canary Wharf Group, how are you putting your technology into action on construction projects?

One of our core focuses is people centric design, if Qflow isn’t making life easier for teams on site, it won’t be used and it won’t be adding value.

We work closely with our clients to understand their work-flows and pain points to ensure that Qflow is deployed in the most streamlined and efficient way. This close relationship also helps inform how we can further develop the Qflow tool to support other aspects of the construction process.

A great example of this is our recent work with Bouygues UK that lead to Qflow also capturing Purchase Order number to support goods received verification against invoices. It’s simple things like this that save the industry so much time and make Qflow more valuable.

Q. What is Qualis Flow most excited to speak about at our upcoming Construction technology event on Mobile Platforms?

We love the process of making complex tasks simple and having a positive impact on the world around us. That’s the whole premise of Qualis Flow as a company. We’re excited to share our insights in this space and challenge others to consider how effective, people centric software design can employer site teams to deliver more better, rather than fear technology.
