In an effort to meet the growing demand for housing and support sustainable development, Shropshire Council has unveiled its plans for the Tasley Garden Village, a visionary project that aims to create a thriving community near Bridgnorth. The proposed development seeks to accommodate more than 1,000 new homes on agricultural land, partly designed to address housing needs in the neighboring Black Country authority.

Councillor Robert Tindall, an independent Shropshire Councillor for Brown Clee, has expressed his views on the project while highlighting the importance of preserving the countryside. However, Shropshire Council emphasizes that the Local Plan, including the Tasley Garden Village, aligns with government policies and addresses the challenge of limited brownfield sites in the county. The council’s Cabinet member for planning and regulatory services, Councillor Chris Schofield, explains that the site allocations have been meticulously assessed through a robust process that included public consultations. The proposed allocations are believed to contribute significantly to meeting the housing needs of Shropshire while considering the principles of sustainable development.

Shropshire Council’s approach takes into account both the redevelopment of brownfield land and the identification of suitable greenfield locations to ensure a balanced and sustainable mix of developments. The council remains committed to preserving the unique beauty of the countryside while providing essential housing for the community.

As the draft Shropshire Local Plan undergoes examination by Planning Inspectors, the council is optimistic that the proposed site allocations, including the Tasley Garden Village, will contribute positively to the region’s growth and welfare. With a comprehensive focus on sustainable development, Shropshire Council aims to strike a harmonious balance between the housing needs of the population and the conservation of its natural landscapes.
