THAT Group Development Portsmouth Southsea

THAT Group’s plans to transform the now empty John Lewis store in Portsmouth’s Southsea will be decided next week – after they submitted plans earlier in the year.

The proposal from THAT Group is to re-purpose the buildings into a thriving mixed-use building including:

  • Cinema
  • Hotel [emaillocker id=”71749″]
  • Coffee Bar
  • Shops
  • Shared offices
  • Rooftop bar and terrace
  • Events space

Designs for the new scheme (drawn up by EPR Archirects) were revealed back in February and a consultation period took place across the area – and Portsmouth City Council will now confirm if the project has the green light. If approved there would be excavation work in the building’s basement and most of the third floor’s structure would be demolished and rebuilt with a one-storey extension.

Peter Tisdale, Chief Executive at THAT Group – and a confirmed speaker for the South Coast Development Conference, said: “We are very encouraged by the support and positive feedback we have received to date from the local community about our plans, which will deliver major new investment to this part of the town centre and ensure this landmark building continues to positively contribute to the vitality of Southsea’s town centre.”

“Our project team has been working very hard over the last few months to progress our regeneration plans, which will deliver and exciting and varied mix of new uses, creating a destination for local people to work, shop, sleep, meet, eat and drink.”
