Wiltshire College’s Salisbury campus is set to undergo a £14m redevelopment – which will see student numbers double. The plans, which will see a major refurbishment, a new campus layout and a new building, will give the local economy a huge boost by enhancing the number of skilled workers to fill job vacancies in the county.

We’ll be hearing from Wiltshire College on their plans and future pipeline development for their estates at the South Coast Universities Development Plans conference.

The plans to modernise the campus will see the addition of new higher education courses within increasingly required areas such as advanced engineering and life science.

Deputy Principle and Project Sponsor Adrian Ford said: ”To get the money for the project we had to be in line with the LEP’s priorities for the region and to do this we will introduce six life science degrees and we’re also opening more engineering courses. Salisbury is a city that has to import these workers from other areas and with this we will be able to grow our own at a higher level. There is no doubt that the LEP funding is underpinned by the long-term growth of the college which means more students and more skills. We want to get twice the amount of students than we have over the coming years.”

The £14m project will include a new building to house modern teaching facilities, and a new campus layout which will mean a shift of where certain courses are taught, and the existing buildings will be improved to better the student experience whilst at college. Public spaces and landscaping will also be enhanced to achieve an improved look and feel to the campus.

The redevelopment some amid an investment into Salisbury by the Swindon and Wiltshire LEP, as they were successfully awarded money through the Local Growth Fund.
