Heathrow Airport is planning a mini Terminal 5 close to its existing T5 to handle 25m passengers a year, as the initial costs for a third runway is cut by £2.5bn. The proposal could see a new mini terminal to the west of the site to handle 25m passengers a year, with the plans to be put in front of the public next month.

On the 10th January we’ll be joined at the London Major Developers Conference by Emma Gilthorpe; Executive Expansion Director at Heathrow Airport, who’ll be giving a presentation on expansion plans at the London airport before we open the floor to questions and networking.

The reduction in cost comes from reducing space and breaking building work into stages, leaving the total build at £14bn, and existing terminals could be expanded to hold an extra £16.5m passengers instead of a standalone terminal.

No expansion to London’s five airports would see them reach full capacity by 2034, according to the Department of Transport. The Heathrow proposal could see Heathrow’s capacity increase from 85.5m to 130m passengers each year.

Emma Gilthorpe, who’ll be speaking at our London event, said: ‘’Expanding Heathrow is pivotal to Britain’s future prosperity and it’s a chance to make the airport a better neighbour for our local communities.’’

Heathrow hope to start building in 2021 with the completion of the runway in 2025.
