Senior business leaders from Thames Valley and Berkshire have welcomed the news of a third runway being given the thumbs up at Heathrow. The Government announcement earlier this week was focused on tackling a growing lack of capacity for the future in UK aviation, whilst also having a huge economic benefit to the wider region with the creation of more homes, jobs, regeneration projects and more.

The additional runway will give Heathrow the largest capacity within the UK, and it’s been described as ‘positive’ by the local authorities.

Thames Valley Berkshire Local Enterprise Partnership (LEP), who are set to speak at the Thames Valley & Berkshire Development Plans Conference on the 26th June, are one of those central to growing the economy and their Chief Executive Tim Smith said: ”The decision to support the Heathrow expansion is a positive signal from cabinet about the UK’s future, global connectivity. As the most productive sub-region in the country, Thames Valley Berkshire’s connectivity is very much its USP and is crucial to maintaining the area’s and UK’s competitive advantage.”

Enterprise M3 LEP Chairman Dave Axam was also extremely positive about the benefits it could have on the region saying: ”The Enterprise M3 Area has the largest number of foreign owned companies within its area and they are located here due to proximity to Heathrow. Airport expansion will help retain these key businesses and encourage the economy to flourish.”

Join us to hear how this decision by Government may shape the future of the region and potential developments at the Thames Valley & Berkshire Development Plans Conference.
