Avant CALA Homes Development Land Delivery Building

A large residential development in Scotland has been given the thumbs up by Midlothian Council’s planning committee – allowing work to get underway on delivering the 544 new homes. The proposals were put forward by CALA Homes and Avant Homes – who’ll be speaking at our Yorkshire Development Plans Conference about their future development plans – is set to boost the areas much needed available housing – with the local authority recently highlighting the major shortage in the area.

The development of 544 will include:

  • 22% to be affordable housing (120)
  •  389 detached homes
  • 20 semi-detached properties
  • 44 ‘cottage flats’
  • 52 flats in three-storey blocks.

Speaking about the scheme Derek Lawson, Land Director at CALA Homes, said: “Enabling work has now started at the site and we’ve issued letters to locals to let them know more about the plans. We’ve worked closely with the local community over many years to ensure that these plans meet the need for new homes while also benefitting the people already living in Penicuik. The development is a very real investment in Penicuik and it will significantly benefit the town’s infrastructure, helping to improve schools, roads and local facilities. Meanwhile the local economy will also benefit, bringing valuable new custom to local businesses.”

Nicola Reid, Land Director of Avant Homes, said: “The principle of development has been long established – with planning applications for the site with Midlothian Council since 2004 – and, we’re now focused on making a significant investment in Penicuik and the surrounding area.”

Avant Homes have an ambitious target to become a £1bn over the next few years – and they’ll be talking about their overall strategy with a focus on the East Midlands, Yorkshire, North East and Scotland at our conference in Leeds on the 21st March.
