East Midlands Hub HS2 Connect Birmingham Toton Transport Rail

Chancellor of the Exchequer Philip Hammond has announced fresh funding for a local-led body named Midlands Engine Partnership – which will help the region maximise the huge opportunities which HS2 will bring to the East Midlands HS2 Station and East Midlands Airport. The funding will enable the development body to put to together plans to enhance the region and ensure the area is best prepared to grasp opportunities it presents.

The focus of the funding will be around the HS2 Toton station and East Midlands Airport – both of whom will be presenting details of the major development and regeneration projects and schemes which are set to happen in the region at the HS2 Economic Growth Conference next month.

The announcement came at the Conservative Party Conference in Birmingham and speaking of the funding he said: ”The body will attract investment, create jobs and provide opportunities in this area of huge economic potential. I want to announce funding to support the create of a new, locally-led development body for the area around Toton in the East Midlands.”

Maria Machancoses, Director at Midlands Connect and speaker at the HS2 Economic Growth Conference, said: ”We have been clear that jobs, housing and infrastructure to connect Toton to Nottingham, Derby, Leicester and East Midlands Airport can all be delivered in the 2020s, well before HS2 services arrive. We’re also making the case for opening Toton to HS2 services in 2030, three years earlier than planned.”

The HS2 Economic Growth Conference will hear about the huge opportunities around the region and how those in our industry can get involved in regeneration and development schemes.
