A brand new ‘garden village’ is set to be built in Coventry after council chiefs approved plans for a development in Westwood Heath.

Developer Crest Nicholson, who’ll be speaking at the West of England Economic Growth Conference about their ongoing and future development plans, are behind the 425-home scheme and they have will now got the backing of Warwick and Coventry councils. The land where the homes is set to be built recently had its status changed to remove its green belt status – enabling the site to be included within the Local Plan for the area.

The 425 houses will be completed in several stages – with 129 dwellings making up phase one – and a convenience store is also planned in the exciting new village development. The first phase will be located to the north east of the site – where Westwood Heath Road and Bockendon Road meet.

One of the key concerns raised about the development was the infrastructure around the area – but this has been eased thanks to Crest Nicholson agreeing a S106 order, which will see them provide in excess of £1.5m towards infrastructure improvements around the site. That funding will be used to ease congestion, enhance capacity at busy junctions and ensure green options such as cycle routes are introduced.

Crest Nicholson are one of many developers presenting their future development plans at the West of England Economic Growth Conference in October – and if you’re looking to hear exclusive development and regeneration insights from the West of England it’s a must attend event.
