5G Development Conference; The £160bn Sector

This event will delve into the future of 5G across the UK – a sector worth over £160bn over the next decade.

It is estimated that the development of 5G will be worth £160bn to the UK economy over the next decade. As well as enhancing user experience, the roll-out of 5G will have implications across the built environment. It presents a wealth of opportunities – through more efficient use of VR and AR and the expansion of the Internet of Things etc, but also brings challenges due to factors such as its shorter range and reduced ability to travel through obstacles.

This conference will help you understand the consequences 5G will have on the industry, as well as showcasing some of the major developments that are planned in order to bring forward 5G and its associated infrastructure, including discussions of the procurement process and opportunities to get involved. Digital Catapult – Dritan Kaleshi, Head of Technology, 5G

Dritan is Head of Technology – 5G at Digital Catapult, where he has established and leads the 5G Programme in Future Networks. His focus is on national 5G coordination and how to best support start-ups and scaleup innovation and technical advances on new 5G network architectures, network and service orchestration, edge computing and IoT support. He will discuss Digital Catapult’s work to stimulate innovation and the adoption of 5G including the testbed accelerator program.

 

Tech London Advocates – Caroline Puygrenier, Chair of 5G Working Group

Tech London Advocates (TLA) boast a network of more than 9,000 tech leaders, entrepreneurs and experts from across the UK. The 5G Working Group is a community of ecosystem stakeholders that operate independent of government and are led by the private sector to aid in delivering the potential of full 5G roll-out to consumers, businesses and wider society.

The TLA 5G Working Group is hosted by EMEA data centre experts, Interxion, where Caroline also works as Director of Strategy and Business Development Connectivity.

The Scotland 5G Centre – Paul Coffey, Chief Executive Officer

The Scotland 5G Centre is the national centre for 5G, accelerating demand, deployment and adoption of 5G in Scotland. The centre received initial investment from the Scottish Government and is an innovative partnership between the Scottish Futures Trust, University of Glasgow and the University of Strathclyde. The centre has been working to increase connectivity across the nation with its’ innovation districts and 5G Scotland Rural Testbed projects.

Sunderland City Council – Liz St Louis, Assistant Director, Smart Cities

Sunderland was named UK smart city of the year for 2020 for its forward thinking approach and the pace at which they are driving forward projects to embed an augmented digital infrastructure. The city council are moving forward with projects including upgrades to vital digital infrastructure connecting the city through the continuing rollout of free ultrafast public wi-fi with download speeds surpassing the first 5G cities, expansion of the National Assistive Technologies test-bed, delivering solutions to enable vulnerable people to live safely at home, reducing social care intervention and the implementation of transport solutions for traffic mapping to inform future traffic flow and allow real-time traffic management.

 

Connected Places Catapult – Dr Reza Akhavan, Senior Technologist

Reza is an accomplished Senior Technologist conceptualising and delivering transformative urban and mobility technologies  at Connected Places Catapult. He has over 14 years of experience of successful delivering R&D and EU projects in industry and academia. He has strong technical skills and experience to ensure strategies, standards, and architectures are consistent and integrated across the domain. His technical work focusing on emerging networking technologies and wireless and mobile communication, specialise in particular in M2M/IoT and 5G. Prior to the Catapult, he led technical contributions in several IoT projects at the Intel Collaborative Research Institute at Imperial College London, BT Research, Vodafone R&D. He contributed in Ofcom’s TV White Space trail and EU’s H2020 SynchroniCity, and other FP7 projects.

Connecting Cambridgeshire and Smart Cambridge – Noelle Godfrey, Programme Director

As the person responsible for supporting the development of future facing digital infrastructure in Cambridgeshire, Noelle is on the frontline of the UK’s digital revolution. Since joining the council, Noelle has helped Cambridgeshire become a leading digital county and has recently led a number of successful funding bids to further expand the programme to target improvements in voice and data mobile (2G & 4G), extend full fibre networks, trial 5G (next generation mobile) and increase public access Wi-fi coverage over the next four years.

Arcadis – Mark Harrop, Senior Strategic Opportunities Director

Mark is an expert in 5G and digital connectivity and has written extensively on the 5G revolution and the impact it will have on the built environment. He will provide some thought leadership on the challenges that need to be overcome to ensure the UK sees the full benefits of the technology, and how the opportunities and challenges the it will present to those working in construction and the built environment.
