Future Development Plans – Birmingham & West Midlands

Wednesday, 23rd September 2020 0945hrs – 1130hrs

Investment seems to be at an all-time high across the West Midlands – with city skylines becoming unrecognisable and the focus on regional connectivity and infrastructure set to unlock numerous development and regeneration opportunities.

During this online event, which will include speed/video networking opportunities, we’ll hear from a select few who’re bringing forward such development plans and have an exciting pipeline of future projects in the works. They’ll share short presentations before moving onto an audience led Q&A.

Speakers for this event include:

Duncan Smith,
Commercial Director
Amanda White,
Rail Programme Director
Steve Sanders,
Head of Development
Julia Bevan,
Director
  • Oval Real Estate – are a developer known for the regeneration of unloved and underestimated places and the creation of high quality working communities. They have recently submitted plans for a £1 billion transformation of the iconic Custard Factory in the Digbeth area of Birmingham. The 42-acre scheme has the potential to create up to 16,000 jobs, utilise 2.2 million sq ft of commercial space and provide 1,850 homes. Steve will discuss the details behind the iconic scheme and how they see it moving forward in the coming months.
  • Walsall Housing Group – are a major Midlands housing association, managing over 21,000 houses across the region. As part of the plan to build more than 500 new homes a year they are regenerating the 16.5 acre former Caparo steelworks site in Walsall, in partnership with Lovell, into a 252-home community. Duncan will give an update on the scheme, how it will create a vibrant community on an unused, derelict site and how it will help meet the pressing need for high quality affordable homes in the region.
  • Grainger – are building a 375 home build to rent development at Exchange Square 2 in Birmingham city centre, in partnership with Nikal. The project will be Grainger’s second BtR development in the city and forms part of Nikal’s £350 million ‘urban village’. Julia will discuss the ideas behind the project and how it will create a vibrant community opposite the forthcoming HS2 Curzon station.
  • West Midlands Rail Executive – is a partnership of 16 authorities in the region and aims to drive investment and improvement in rail services and infrastructure to connect communities and provide the capacity for economic growth. Amanda is responsible for overseeing the development of five new stations as well as the major redevelopment of two more. The recently announced £56 million project to improve the University Station and create facilities to handle 7.2 million passengers per year forms a key part of this plan. Amanda will discuss the plans, how they will form a key part of the region’s economic growth and how the projects will progress.
