All Parliamentary Group for Housing Market and Housing Delivery – Ben Everitt MP, Chair

Ben leads the APPG which has been formed by parliamentarians who share a belief in the importance of building new homes and want to raise housing up the political agenda. The APPG is committed to developing much stronger relations between parliament and business leaders based on a shared agenda of building the quality homes and communities that the UK needs. Ben will give an opening address for the event, providing a call to arms as well as talking about what his cross party group of MPs are doing to accelerate delivery and improve affordability for homeowners.

Communities that Work – Lynsey Sweeney, Managing Director

As direct advisor to the All Parliamentary Political Group for Housing and Social Mobility, Communities that Work aim to combine the national housebuilding agenda with skills and social mobility. With a mission to lobby for more inclusive community development and placemaking, Lynsey will talk about the fine line of accelerating housing development and creating places for all.

Manchester City Council – Kevin Lowry, Director of Housing and Residential Growth

Manchester City Council are in the middle of a 10 year housing strategy which places the principles of developing new homes, creating pathways to ownership, offering a diverse and high quality rental options and green neighbourhoods at its core. More of the cities land will be used for ‘social good’ in the coming years including delivering an increased provision of sociable and affordable housing and Kevin will be on hand to discuss the council’s plans as well as their upcoming collaborations with developers.

Grainger PLC – Isabelle Phillips, Acquisitions Manager

As the UK’s largest residential landlord Grainger and one of the biggest names in Build to Rent and have a long term pipeline of 9,000 BtR homes worth £2 billion. They are pushing ahead with a number of projects with Bristol being a key target city for Grainger. The latest project is the 231 unit scheme being developed by Cubex and Isabelle will give more intel on this scheme and Grainger’s future plans in Bristol and the wider region.

 

Barratt Homes – Philip Barnes, Group Land and Planning Director

Britain’s biggest housebuilder, Barratt built over 17,500 homes across the UK last year. As their Group Land and Planning Director Philip is one of the most eminent figures in the industry and is focused on driving their major projects through the planning process. He will discuss Barratt’s continued growth, how they utilise the planning system to create places we all want to live in and an overview of their plans as we look to the year ahead.

Taylor Wimpey – Jennie Daly, Group Operations Director

As one of Britain’s most reliable housebuilders, Taylor Wimpey deliver over 15,000 homes across the country per year. Jennie is one of the most eminent names from the sector and will join the conference to talk about how her organisation’s plans fit into the “get Britain building” ambition, their continued application of innovation when delivering schemes and what the company’s priorities are for the year ahead.

Redrow – Kevin Parker, Group Masterplanning Director

Redrow are one of the UK’s leading housebuilders with a number of Garden Village projects in the pipeline, most notably, a recent application has been lodged for 1,400 homes near Tring. Kevin is an urban designer and town planner with over 20 years’ experience in both the private and public sectors. At Redrow, Kevin and his team are responsible for promoting best practice in placemaking across the company as well as providing urban design support to all of the regions. He has led on the launch of an internal placemaking manual called “Designing a Better Way to Live”, which sets out eight measurable principles – the ‘Redrow 8’ – providing a framework for the delivery of great places across the country.

Settle – Fiona Coulson, Head of Land and Partnerships

Settle are a major housing association managing over 9000 properties across the South East. They recently secured a £75 million funding deal with Aviva Investors which will be invested in a large scale housebuilding programme as well as stepping up its environmental, social and governance credentials. They plan to build 1,500 homes over the next three years, 90% of which will be affordable and Fiona will discuss this plan and the sites they are looking to develop.

Transport for London – Ben Tate, Head of Property Development, Build to Rent

Ben leads the Build to Rent team within TfL Property responsible for the delivery of more than 3,000 homes across 7 sites, providing long term rental income for TfL and providing much needed homes in the capital. Developments are planned or underway in Lambeth, Ealing, Greenwich, Enfield and Newham with more in the pipeline. Ben will provide an update on the exciting plans including the first site to receive planning permission, at Southall Station in West London.

Howard Kennedy – Shreena Avery, Senior Associate

With recently announced exciting plans to develop 5000 single family homes in collaboration with nationwide volume housebuilders, Jonathon will be joining the conference to explore the evolving needs of such families and the changing dynamic of the types of residential spaces needed for millennials and families in the future.

Karbon Homes – Charlotte Carpenter, Executive Director of Growth and Development

Karbon Homes aims to create 2200 using the £131m of funding provided as part of their new strategic partnership with Homes England. As part of this event, she will talk in depth about their plans and a wider contribution to inclusive community building in the North East.

Abri – James Pennington, Development Director

Abri (previously Radian Group & Yarlington Housing Group) is a large housing association providing over 35,000 homes for 80,000 residents across the South of England. They have plans to build at least 1,000 new high quality homes every year by 2025, working collaboratively with government and other organisations that share their values. They also have an ambitious strategy to invest £215 million into their existing homes to significantly enhance sustainability. James will discuss these plans, some of the schemes they are working on and their development and procurement process.

Howard Kennedy – Kate Woodgate, Partner and Head of Residential Development

Kate Woodgate is a real estate development expert who advises on substantial and complex development transactions. Kate heads up the Residential Development team at Howard Kennedy and is the co-lead of the Private Rented Sector core team. She has worked with many large developers and investors on PRS related transactions. Kate deals with site acquisitions/assembly, forward funding arrangements, forward sale agreements, overages, options, sub-sales, as well as, proposing structures for clients. Kate works with the other members of the PRS team on cross-practice work including financing, planning, construction, management of assets and corporate wrappers.

All-Party Parliamentary Group for Housing and Planning – David Simmons MP, Chair

Formed as a cross-party think tank to provide a forum for parliamentarians to discuss issues arising from housing and planning policy, primarily the delivery of housing, infrastructure and placemaking via the planning system. High on the agenda for 2021 is exploring the development of more sustainable housing, overcoming the barriers for first time buyers. David will share the group’s thoughts on the aforementioned and participate in an interactive Q&A with our audience.

Greystar – Dave Thomas, Senior Director, Development

Since entering the European Market in 2013, Greystar have forged ahead to become one of the country’s largest BtR players and are well on the way to achieving their goal of delivering 10,000 units across London by 2022. Their development pipeline includes more than 4,500 homes across the capital, including the world’s tallest modular tower and schemes in west, east, south and central London. Dave will discuss their upcoming projects, including at Nine Elms Parkside, how the sector has remained in a strong position over the last 12 months and their plans for 2021 and beyond.

Nationwide – Katherine Quigley, Social Investment Manager

Nationwide have recently created their first not for profit housing development at Oakfield in Swindon – an innovative project that heavily involved the local community in order to deliver high quality, sustainable homes that properly provide for the needs of residents and enhance the area they are located in. Nationwide are aiming to be an exemplar of future housing development and are keen to share their experience as a non-traditional housebuilder moving into the sector. They feel there is significant scope for other companies to follow their example and get involved in the housing sector, especially considering the major changes in property use we have seen over the last year. They will discuss their project, future plans and how their model can be replicated across the UK.

HBD – Adam Brady, Director

Creating neighbourhoods of the future is what HBD do and with a plethora of exciting projects in the pipeline including Kampus in Manchester, Cornwall House in Birmingham and the Pheonix 10 regeneration in Walsall, Adam will be on hand to give delegates a peek behind the curtain into development timelines and transformational impact they will have on the communities they serve.
