Mark Jones MBE, Director of Regeneration; Hull City CouncilHull Development Plans - Mark Jones

Mark commenced his working career as a shipping clerk importing timber through Alexandra Dock.  Appointed Head of Economic Development by Hull City Council in 1999, he now holds the position of Director of Regeneration.

Mark is privileged to have worked within and with the Ports sector in Hull and the Humber for a number of years and has led the Council’s partnership approach to Green Port alongside ABP, the University of Hull and East Riding of Yorkshire Council since 2009.

He has worked on the Siemens investment since 2010 leading the Council’s project team, working alongside ABP and Siemens to fully realise the potential of the off-shore renewables sector.

Mark appreciates the full support of Hull City Council and partners and stresses that this is an ‘all Hull effort’ which is lifting the city to achieve even greater things.  He says ‘Hull’s time has come!’

Mark was made an MBE in the Queen’s Birthday Honours list 2016 for his services to leading Hull’s regeneration and investment.

Outside of work Mark maintains a boyhood passion for motorcycles!

Garry currently leads a team of project management specialists to deliver a large-scale programme of new-build, refurbishment, public realm and cultural/economic regeneration. This programme is the catalyst that will prepare the city for its year in the spotlight in 2017 as the City of Culture and beyond. The priority projects include a £20m Public Realm programme, major refurbishments to the city’s art gallery and theatre, improvements to parks and to key gateways into the city. Ambitious projects beyond this include a cruise terminal and a leisure, music and events arena.

Garry is a regeneration and project professional with over 15 years experience and a proven track record in developing and delivering successful strategies and major projects in the north of England at regional, sub-regional, city and local neighbourhood levels.

Garry’s recent achievements include the development of a strategic investment and medium to long term development plan for multiple investment programmes across the City of Hull. He has also successfully submitted funding bids which have brought in an additional £80m of public funding into Hull with an equivalent private sector match of over £500m of investment.
