Who’s speaking on Friday 12th July

Centre for Economic & Business Research (CEBR) – Vicky Pryce, Senior Economist

Vicky has an incredible breath of experience – having worked across many major organisations throughout her career. Her roles have included the Joint Head of the UK Government Economic Service, whilst before that she began her career with senior economic positions are London Economics, KPMG and many others.

Her role now sees her working with CEBR – a world-renowned leading independent research firm, where she is the Chief Economic Advisor and recently appointed Board Member. She’ll be sharing her incredible knowledge and what the London’s economic future looks like.

Greater London Authority (GLA) – Megan Life, Housing Policy Manager, Housing and Land

Having joined the GLA is 2016 Megan has progressed through the housing team, having started out worked exclusively on the PRS Housing Policy and in her time there she Founded the London Borough’s PRS Partnership. Prior to her move to the GLA she worked at the London Borough of Waltham Forest.

Megan’s role at the GLA, the devolved regional governance body of London, sees her work across residential and housing – and she’ll be sharing exclusive details into the future strategy, vision and development sites across the City of London and Greater London.

Ealing Council – Julian Bell, Leader

Julian is the Leader of one of the largest boroughs in London – and one of the most diverse communities in the whole of the county. He is heavily involved in regeneration, which is included in his cabinet portfolio, and he also represents the borough on other organisations including the West London Alliance, Local Strategic Partnership, London Councils, Transport and Environment Committee and Old Oak and Park Royal Development Corporation.

The borough is a powerhouse of west London’s economy, and they’re focusing on major growth opportunities spurred by five new Crossrail stations, and the massive Old Oak & Park Royal project is one which will help transform the area. With so much happening there is a major need to accelerate housing, alongside sustainable and community led developments, and Julian will be speaking about some of the major projects and development zones.

Apex Housing Group – Val Bagnall, Managing Director

Val has over 24 years of experience in the residential development market, with a key focus on the South and London regions. Working for a variety of affordable and private sector firms he has gained excellent experience across different sectors, but has always been a focal figure in the need to deliver social and affordable housing. He is a Non-Executive Director of a Affordable Housing providing in Windsor alongside his role at Apex.

He’ll be speaking about Apex’s major new projects set to happen across the capital, and their future projects in the pipeline. Having recently received £10m from Homes England to develop roof-top homes across London it’s clearly an exciting period for the developer, and one which will be looked to expand across London and other city centres.

London Borough of Waltham Forest – Jennifer Daothong, Director of Housing Strategy

Jennifer has worked at Waltham Forest Council for just under a year, having moved from her previous role at Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park. At the Olympic Park her role as Head of Strategy and Sustainability saw her gain plaudits for the excellent role she played in the development of the area. She has a strong public sector background – with experience working for Southwark Council and Greater London Authority also on her CV.

The authority is looking to accelerate housing across the region, and Jennifer will play a crucial role within the planning of that strategy. She’ll be sharing insights and intel into how firms can get involved and the major developments which are set to come to fruition in the region soon.

Interland Group – Cyril Ogunmakin, Chief Executive

Cyril is responsible for the overall management of Interland Group – a forward thinking property investment company with developments across the UK and Europe. He made his way to his current role having spent more than 30 years in the industry in a variety of property and project management roles. He has worked with some major firms including Bruntwood AND The Mansion Group.

The capital continues to be a key location for Interland as they grow their portfolio. They’ve recently completed the first phase of the Kellogg Tower site redevelopment, and their now working on the second phase – Park View Place. This phase will see the delivery of 350 new homes, situated in a stunning and environmentally aware site. That scheme is current awaiting approval and they’ll be discussing timeframes and procurement opportunities for not only this project but many others within the pipeline.

Pocket Living – Marc Vlessing, Founder & CEO

Marc has gained a reputation of being an exceptional entrepreneur with extensive experience is media, entertainment, finance and property – and his latest venture which started in 2005 has seen him team up with one of the largest owners and developers of affordable housing in the U.S.

Pocket Living have identified the need to give ‘a leg-up’ to those within London who could otherwise get lost in the London economy. They focus on delivering affordable but high-quality developments within the capital – and Marc will talk through some of the ongoing projects and importantly their future schemes and what their pipeline looks like, with some exceptional schemes to be launched shortly.

University of Oxford – Danny Dorling, Economic Geographer

Danny has published more than a dozen books on issues related to social inequalities in Britain and several hundred journal papers. His work concerns issues of housing, health, employment, education and poverty, and this will be the focus of our disruptor session.

He’ll be discussing how, through development and sustainable growth in our industry, we can collaboratively work together to help rebalance the economy.

Notting Hill Genesis – Eleanor Purser, Regeneration Director

Notting Hill Housing and Genesis Housing are working in partnership to achieve their common goals of working within communities to provide decent and affordable homes for lower-income households. Eleanor will be sharing fresh details on their joint plans and they look to deliver thousands of new homes across the region – and she’ll share info on how companies of all sizes can get involved in their exciting and ambitious plans.

Eleanor will specifically speak about the regeneration of Aylesbury Estate in Southwark in which she is leading. As the preferred development partner of the London Borough of Southwark they’re delivering more than 3,500 over the next 20 years’ of which a massive 50% will be affordable.

Montreaux – Brendon Walsh, Director

Brendon is a diligent, chartered town planner with extensive experience in local authority, planning consultancy and client side working for residential-led mixed use developments in London and the South East. He moved to Montreaux from the Royal Borough of Greenwich where he was the Senior Planning Officer, and prior to this he has worked for Mount Anvil, Firstplan and Mid Devon District Council amongst others.

Montreaux has a broad range of development expertise, working on a diverse mix of residential, commercial, leisure, retail and mixed use schemes, and Tom will be sharing fresh information about the projects coming to the fore – including on the 7-acre site purchased recently for mixed-use development and more than 2,000 homes planned for Ealing.

Meridian Water – Peter George, Programme Director

Having worked for Hackney Council for 5 years at the beginning of his career Peter has been a key member of Enfield Council since 2009. His time at the Council has seen him progress through many different roles, including heavy involvement in the £350m Alma Estate regeneration.

He now works on the ambitious Meridian Water scheme, a development which is set to deliver 10,000 new homes, a new train station, a new employment hub creating thousands of jobs and more. They’re actively looking to speak with developers and firms from across the built environment industry to help deliver the £6bn project.
