Contractors and consultants, especially those engaged on projects for the public sector, will often find themselves operating under the NEC4 form of contract.

The new form of contract was introduced back in 2017, replacing the 12-year-old NEC3 suite with a number of key changes, all with the intention to meet users’ changing requirements, whilst stimulating good project management and improving clarity on a number of aspects.

A multitude of major infrastructure projects have been procured under this form of contract to date and many more are on the horizon, but are the public sector really utilising this to the best of its ability?

From enabling sustainable practices (X21) to encouraging collaboration throughout a project (X12), there’s plenty of missed opportunities in this contract form we could be capitalising on.
