Driving Economic Growth in the North East – With Developments Totalling £20bn+ To Be Discussed

The virtual North East Development Conference is set to delve into the biggest challenges and opportunities across the region. With the support of the regional authorities we’re put together an agenda which will focus on driving investment, development and regeneration into the area.

Following the huge success of our two North East Development Conference’s in 2020 this popular event returns and will focus on the region’s emergence from the Covid-19 crisis and development plans in a post Brexit landscape.

Topics covered will include the area’s evolving role in the Northern Powerhouse agenda, the major push for future infrastructure and inward investment and how local authorities and private sector developers are collaborating to bring forward new projects to regenerate high streets, town centres and former industrial sites to make it an attractive place to live, work and invest. Space APPG – Chi Onwurah MP, Shadow Minister for Science, Research & Innovation and Vice Chair

Chi Onwurah is the Member of Parliament for Newcastle upon Tyne Central. She currently operates as the Shadow Minister for Science, Research & Innovation. Chi is also Vice Chair of the Space APPG that plays a key role in highlighting and promoting the benefits from the UK’s investment in space and its leading role within the global space economy.

Thirteen Group – Dr Angela Brockbank, Head of Growth

Thirteen Group are in the midst of a £1bn home building programme and are reaching out of their traditional region in the North East to develop schemes in West Yorkshire and beyond. All of their projects aim to combine housing with wider urban regeneration masterplans and Angela joins the conference to showcase their forthcoming pipeline and present case studies as to where her organisation are supporting town centre revival.

Grainger PLC – Andrew Saunderson, Investment Director

Being headquartered in Newcastle, the North East is hugely important to Grainger. With a thirst for delivering projects in the region apparent, Andrew is joining the event to talk about their options and what they’d like to bring forward in the future as well as share insight as to what ingredients they think will unlock economic growth.

North East LEP – Helen Golightly, Chief Executive

North East LEP has been concentrating on regeneration projects aimed at connectivity and infrastructure while also supporting the Covid 19 recovery. Helen and her team have been providing funding to numerous built environment projects and are playing an active part in development across the region.

 

 

LGIM – Ben Rodgers, Head of Regeneration

Legal and General launches £350 million Temple Meads railway station regeneration scheme – proposing 500 new homes and 2000 new jobs to the region.  Ben will be joining us to discuss the revitalisation of the region and how economic growth can be brought to Bristol

Beyond Housing – Clare Harrigan, Director of Development

Beyond Housing are one of the largest registered housing providers across the North East and North Yorkshire, responsible for 15,000 homes throughout the two regions. The housing provider have recently delved into the MMC world with an investment of £19.5m into a new housing development of 117 high-quality, eco-friendly homes in Stockton-on-Tees. Clare will be on hand to discuss Beyond Housing’s journey using MMC so far and their future plans to create future homes using these innovative methods of construction.

CoCity – Alex Impey, Founder and Chief Executive Officer

CoCity are leaders in providing vibrant modern spaces to live and work-building mixed use communities across the UK – focusing on Community based living. Developing the £7.8 million Stoneygate project in Aberdeen, offering a gym, wellbeing centre, cafe-bar, office space and co-working – the development aims to rejuvenate the area.  Alex joins us to discuss the UK’s BtR sector as well as CoCity’s unique model – community-centred flexible living, which is a mixed tenure approach to living.

 

Tees Valley Combined Authority – Alison Fellows, Group Commercial Director

The South Tees Development Corporation have recently received £123m of government investment to kick-start their 4500 acre regeneration ambition which will eventually support close to £1bn per year worth of property development projects in the Tees Valley. Integral to these plans is Alison, who will be delivering an overview of the types of schemes Teessiders are likely to see on the horizon in the next two years. Determined to be at the centre of the UK’s zero carbon agenda, several major clean energy industrial sites are set to be brought forward as well as a plethora of other commercial space.

Serenity Parks – Rodger Till, Land Director

Serenity Parks are a developer and operator of retirement living communities, specialising in park home living. They are developing factory-built homes across the UK and place an emphasis on community creation as part of their schemes. Rodger will discuss their plans to expand and why park living has an important part to play in the UK’s housing market going forward.

Northern Housing Consortium – Tracy Harrison, Chief Executive Officer

Representing the views of housing associations and local authorities in the North of England while driving and influencing national housing policy, the consortium work to solve complex housing problems. One of their priorities is to be at the forefront of creating sustainable communities in the North East and Tracy’s team are advising their members on the positive steps that can be taken to bring forward greener developments. She will share details on how they are collaborating with Prosper to lead by example.

Landid – James Silver, Managing Director

Landid are heavily involved in the £100m+ regeneration of Sunderland Riverside and have designs on being an integral part of further development in the North East. Positioning themselves as a sustainable, ethical developer, James joins the conference to detail their ambitions to underpin the “smart Sunderland” ambition.

Tritax Symmetry – Simon Dixon, Development Director

As the developers behind a 90 acre, 1.5 million square metre logistics plot in Darlington, Simon and his team have been working with Amazon on unlocking economic growth, jobs and attracting further inward investment to the North East. Aside from their physical development Tritax have been conducting high level consumer research about how logistics developers can respond to ever increasing consumer demands.

Newcastle City Council – Michelle Percy, Director of Place

Growing Newcastle to be an inclusive, green and thriving city is at the heart of Michelle’s day-to-day work and the council have over £1.5bn of investment planned in the coming decade. With a host of key sites being brought forward for development, her team are actively working with investors and expert regenerators to bring to life run down or underused areas of the city centre. She will present an overview of each site and it’s potential while talking about other regeneration priorities as well.
