Driving Economic Growth in the North East – With Developments Totalling £20bn+ To Be Discussed

The virtual North East Development Conference is set to delve into the biggest challenges and opportunities across the region. With the support of the regional authorities we’re put together an agenda which will focus on driving investment, development and regeneration into the area.

Following the huge success of our two North East Development Conference’s in 2020 this popular event returns and will focus on the region’s emergence from the Covid-19 crisis and development plans in a post Brexit landscape.

Topics covered will include the area’s evolving role in the Northern Powerhouse agenda, the major push for future infrastructure and inward investment and how local authorities and private sector developers are collaborating to bring forward new projects to regenerate high streets, town centres and former industrial sites to make it an attractive place to live, work and invest. UK Parliament – Chi Onwurah, MP for Newcastle-Upon-Tyne Central

Tireless local activist and passionate Geordie, Chi is renowned as being one of the hardest working MPs in the UK. With a particular interest in driving regeneration and social mobility she regularly speaks about creating a vibrant, inclusive city and as part of this event will provide context and insight into the relationship between local civic voices and developers with Westminster.

Redcar & Cleveland Borough Council – Angela Brockbank, Head of Place Investment

As Head of Place Investment at Redcar and Cleveland Borough Council, Angela will be able to share insight into the upcoming and ongoing regeneration plans including the £25m Redcar Town Deal, the £10m Loftus Future High Streets Fund and the plans to invest up to £80m over the next four years.

Grainger PLC – Andrew Saunderson, Investment Director

Being headquartered in Newcastle, the North East is hugely important to Grainger. With a thirst for delivering projects in the region apparent, Andrew is joining the event to talk about their options and what they’d like to bring forward in the future as well as share insight as to what ingredients they think will unlock economic growth.

North East LEP – Helen Golightly, Chief Executive

With four key strands and investment priorities for driving growth in the North East- Digital, Advanced Manufacturing, Energy and Health and Life Sciences- Helen knows the importance of the built environment sector in unlocking the region’s potential. As part of this event, Helen will talk about how the LEP are harnessing the property sector to deliver schemes that fit in with those priorities.

 

 

Legal and General – Ben Rodgers, Head of Regeneration

Legal and General are integral to regeneration ambitions in Newcastle and Sunderland. Whether it being the main developer behind the £100m Sunderland city centre vision or the £350m partnership between them, Newcastle City council and Newcastle University, they have so much happening for the betterment of the region. Ben will talk in depth about their future projects and their long lasting impact.

Beyond Housing – Clare Harrigan, Development Director

With a 2000 home development pipeline coming online for the Tees Valley starting in 2021, Beyond Housing a registered provider who own and operate 15,000 homes across the North East and North Yorkshire. As their portfolio expands, Clare will be outlining some of the challenges they are facing and how our audience can potentially collaborate with them in the future.

XUSA Properties – Alex Impey, Head of Residential

As a development partner of Darlington Borough Council, XUSA have been pushing to develop the former Northern Echo building in the centre of the town. North East born and bread but now eager to work nationally, Alex will be on hand to talk through XUSA’s project pipeline, their secrets to success with partnerships and also how they see residential spaces being designed in light of a change in work/life patterns.

 

Tees Valley Combined Authority – Alison Fellows, Group Commercial Director

The South Tees Development Corporation have recently received £123m of government investment to kick-start their 4500 acre regeneration ambition which will eventually support close to £1bn per year worth of property development projects in the Tees Valley. Integral to these plans is Alison, who will be delivering an overview of the types of schemes Teessiders are likely to see on the horizon in the next two years. Determined to be at the centre of the UK’s zero carbon agenda, several major clean energy industrial sites are set to be brought forward as well as a plethora of other commercial space.

High Street Group plc – Rodger Till, Director of Acquisitions

High Street Residential have a development pipeline of close to £1bn and are one of the UK’s major players in the BtR space. Their forthcoming projects include the £146m Strawberry Place project in Newcatle, £309m Stoneyard scheme in Birmingham and the £119m Arundel Street development in Manchester plus many more. Rodger will be on hand to detail intricacies of their portfolio and look ahead to the future.

Northern Housing Consortium – Tracy Harrison, Chief Executive Officer

Representing the views of housing associations and local authorities in the North of England while driving and influencing national housing policy, the consortium work to solve complex housing problems. One of their priorities is to be at the forefront of creating sustainable communities in the North East and Tracy’s team are advising their members on the positive steps that can be taken to bring forward greener developments. She will share details on how they are collaborating with Prosper to lead by example.

Landid – James Silver, Managing Director

As renowned national experts on placemaking, Landid have become integral to regeneration efforts on Wearside and are key voices in shaping the future of Sunderland Riverside. Through their latest major commercial scheme, James’ team will unlock 4500 new jobs, a further phase of hundreds of new homes and act as a catalyst for outward regeneration across the city.

PAGABO – Karen Carter, Regional Manager – North

Based in Hull private framework provider PAGABO are one of the go-to organisations across the North of England and they’re expanding at an exponential rate. They’ve recently announced their £10bn developer led framework whilst also leading across areas like social value and mental health. Karen, who recently joined the organisation, will be bring her knowledge of both public and private sector procurement and development to the session to co-ordinate the panel proceedings.

Tritax Symmetry – Simon Dixon, Development Director

As the developers behind a 90 acre, 1.5 million square metre logistics plot in Darlington, Simon and his team have been working with Amazon on unlocking economic growth, jobs and attracting further inward investment to the North East. Aside from their physical development Tritax have been conducting high level consumer research about how logistics developers can respond to ever increasing consumer demands.

Newcastle City Council – Michelle Percy, Director of Place

Growing Newcastle to be an inclusive, green and thriving city is at the heart of Michelle’s day-to-day work and the council have over £1.5bn of investment planned in the coming decade. With a host of key sites being brought forward for development, her team are actively working with investors and expert regenerators to bring to life run down or underused areas of the city centre. She will present an overview of each site and it’s potential while talking about other regeneration priorities as well.
