We’re set to have an exceptional line-up of speakers who’ll be sharing intel into their future development projects, plans and vision for across the nuclear power sector. Here’s an overview of the confirmed speakers:

Rolls Royce – Tom Samson, Interim CEO, UK Small Modular Reactors Consortium

Rolls Royce are leading a Small Modular Reactor Consortium project to build 16 mini nuclear power stations. The plans will create up to 6,000 regional jobs, and secure exports of up to £250m. The aim behind the project is to contribute to the UK’s net zero commitments affordably, through each small reactor able to provide 440MW of electricity, which is enough low carbon power for a 450,000 homes city. As Interim CEO, Tom will be able to share insight into the plans, alongside how the plans will affect the country.

Sizewell C / EDF Energy – Julia Pyke, Director of Financing

With Sizewell C set to meet nearly 7% of the UK’s power demands when complete, and power around six million homes, Julia will be able to share insight into development plans, the medium to long term impacts of the plant and current projects. Julia will also be able to talk about the ambitions to make the nearby town of Leiston the first net zero town in the UK by investing in EV and solar infrastructure.

UK Atomic Energy Authority – Paul Methven, Director

In early 2021, the UK AEA will have some very exciting news about the development of a new power station in the UK. This event is a timely opportunity for them to present their plans to the built environment sector and specifically ask for its support in delivering what will be a major project.

National Nuclear Laboratory – Dr Fiona Rayment, Chief Science & Technology Officer

As Chief Science & Technology Officer at the NNL, Fiona will be able to share insight into the direction that the nuclear sector is heading, as well as ideas around improving utilisation and the future for the industry. We will also hear about the NNL’s thoughts on  why big plants like Sizewell C and Hinkley C are important, as well as the potential role for small modular reactor technology.

Sellafield Ltd – John Berry, Senior Supply Chain Manager

As the clean-up and development of Sellafield accelerates, John will be able to talk about the long-term ambitions for the site, as well as developments ongoing and upcoming for the region.

Nuclear Industry Association – Tim Stone, Chair

Tim will talk about the future growth opportunities within the UK nuclear industry and make a case for nuclear as a green energy source.

 

Hinkley Point C – Andrew Cockcroft, Senior Manager – Community Relations

Hinkley Point C will play a vital role in tackling the climate change crisis by providing low-carbon electricity to 6 million homes. The surrounding areas will also reap the rewards, with over £1.7 billion already spent on over 1,100 companies across the region. Andrew will be able to share an update on the development of the two new nuclear reactors, alongside how projects are continuing to develop.
