Offsite Manufacturing and MMC Future Trends & Insights

Monday, 21st June 2021 1345hrs – 1530hrs

This webinar will bring together over leaders from the property, development, infrastructure and construction industries to drive forward the modular and offsite manufacturing agenda.

The importance to Government and the wider UK growth strategy of offsite manufacturing is paramount and this event will provide a platform to hear from top level representatives from across the development and construction industries on the key challenges and opportunities, with some of the most influential businesses and institutions in the sector in attendance.

We will be hearing from an incredible panel discussing their developments, their ongoing vision for creating sustainable and inclusive communities and need for an offsite supply chain and new disruptors – as they explain and reveal how firms can get involved.

  • Oxford City Council – Oxford City Council’s Housing company, Oxford City Housing Ltd (OCHL), has major housebuilding plans for the next 10 years. OCHL is aiming to acquire and develop 2,245 new homes on sites across Oxfordshire, with 1,124 of these being homes for social rent and a further 301 shared ownership and other intermediate tenures. Alan will discuss these plans and OCHL’s hunt for contractors deliver these factory built homes.
  • L&Q – L&Q’s ambitious MMC strategy will see it deliver all its new build homes using some form of MMC by 2025, and its first entirely off site manufactured home by 2028. The first part of L&Q’s strategy is seeing it introduce MMC into its homes outside London. Within the next two years, L&Q plans to introduce MMC into its units in London. L&Q’s innovation works aren’t just a series of offsite build components. They are a methodology – a new way L&Q will approach the design, construction and procurement of homes by adopting standardised methodologies and manufacturing principles. This will open up new opportunities – from sustainability, health and safety, quality, cost, and programme and resource efficiencies, helping to address the challenges facing the housing sector and creating homes fit for the future.
  • The Wee House Company – is modular housing developer based in Cumnock, East Ayrshire. The house builder develops modular homes with traditional character, using modules created in their East Ayrshire workshop, which are then transported to plots across the UK for completion. Working in partnership with Irvine Housing Association, The Wee House Company is helping to deliver Scotland’s largest social modular housing development, that will create much-needed new affordable housing in South Ayrshire by Autumn 2022. The development is a part of the Connect Modular brand that supplies affordable, modular homes to housing associations across the UK.
  • Willmott Dixon – Tim is Chief Product Director and overall business lead for Collida – Willmott Dixon’s integrated construction platform, that empowers customers by giving them greater control over their development needs. An influential voice in the industry, Tim is passionate about rethinking the built environment. He is a member of the Construction Leadership Council’s Manufacturing Group, a contributor to key government and industry reports and until recently was the chairman of Buildoffsite – a not for profit industry organisation promoting the use of offsite and pre-manufactured solutions. A fellow of the CIOB, Tim holds an MBA from the University of Reading. In his spare time, he is a keen guitarist and footballer, and – through Willmott Dixon’s links with UK charity Building Schools for Africa – an official prince of the Nkwen tribe in Cameroon!
  • Swan Housing Association – Sam Wait is Director of Business Development and External Affairs at Swan Housing Association. Her role is to help Swan to expand its business through good growth, enabling it to deliver more affordable homes for those who need them and to ensure it operates in a way which “loves the planet”. She recently led on the acquisition of Swan’s second Modular Housing factory, that will enable Swan Housing and partner, NU Living to deliver over 1000 modular homes each year. Swan Housing currently oversees over 11,000 homes and is looking to expand with its third major regeneration project, working with Essex council in a joint venture to build 1,600 homes.
