She will provide a European perspective as part of the opening session including how cross border collaboration can contribute to wider economic growth and levelling up. The Bristol Port Company – John Chaplin, Director of External Affairs and Special Projects The Bristol Port Company is a key driver of economic growth in the Western Gateway and the West of England, enabling the import of 550,000 vehicles, 27% of the UK’s aviation fuel and 25% of animal feed annually. With over 1,000 acres of development land in the vicinity of the port – the largest brownfield development site in Western Europe – the opportunities for growth are vast and John will discuss the port’s ongoing expansion plans as well as land opportunities in the port’s vicinity. Mott MacDonald – Rose Richardson, Projects Director – Ports, Coastal & Offshore Rose is a Projects Director within the Ports, Coastal and Offshore division at Mott MacDonald. A chartered engineer with over 20 years’ experience in a variety of roles, she has extensive experience of leading multi-disciplinary teams in delivery of major port infrastructure projects across a range of sectors, including RoRo and container terminals and defence and energy infrastructure. Her experience spans the project cycle, from the preparation of feasibility studies, through port planning, concept and detailed design under both traditional and design and build contracts, support in obtaining consents and licenses and administration of construction contracts. Her role includes business development activities in the UK and she has line management responsibility for a team of engineers. Rose is committed to open and transparent collaboration with clients and partners in delivering their objectives today and in the future, seeking positive outcomes across her work, and taking full advantage of digital innovations and best practice in driving efficiencies in infrastructure delivery. She is passionate about promoting diversity and inclusion, and is a strong advocate of STEM and early career development. Port of London Authority – James Trimmer, Director of Planning and Environment The Port of London Authority have development plans to announce on the Thames Estuary as part of their Thames Vision 2035. James will be revealing more details about these development plans and how they will benefit the Estuary and bring economic growth to the region. UK Major Ports Group – Tim Morris, Chief Executive Tim has had a busy time dealing with the Port sector’s response to C19. The ports sector really rose to the challenges of the COVID19 crisis with a tremendous response by ports all across the sector, their operators and their staff. Having worked closely with Government at national and local levels, UK ports – the UK’s main gateways with the world, handling 95% of our international trade – stayed open and busy. Tim will provide an update on how the UK Ports are continue to operate and will also provide an overview of growth plans in the sector for 2021 and beyond as they react to BREXIT and other market conditions. iPort Rail – Steve Freeman, Managing Director Iport Rail has only been open for a year but has already contributed greatly to the local economy in South Yorkshire. The Verdion development spans 800 acres next to the M18 motorway in Doncaster, with capacity for up to 9 million sq ft of logistics space in total. Steve will give intel on further phases for development as well as Iport Rail’s involvement in creating a ‘Freeport’ in Doncaster alongside Doncaster Sheffield Airport and Doncaster Rail Hub. Haven Gateway Partnership – Anita Thornberry, Executive Director The Haven Gateway is a distinct economic sub-region based around the major ports of Harwich and Felixstowe, and the Haven Gateway Partnership is a vehicle to promote public/private cooperation and encourage inclusive development and growth in the region. Anita will discuss the importance of the gateway to the wider region’s economy, with the ports cluster handling over 40% of UK freight and being a major supply point for the offshore energy sector. British Ports Association – Richard Ballantyne, Chief Executive Richard is Chief Executive of the British Ports Association is a national membership body for ports which represents the interests of operators, that handle 86% of all UK port traffic, to Westminster and devolved Governments and other national and international bodies. Richard sits on the European Sea Ports Organisation’s Executive Committee, the Maritime UK Board and is also a Director of Port Skills and Safety. He will provide an industry wide overview of the challenges and opportunities facing the sector. Port of Dover – Barbara Buczek, Chief Commercial Officer The Port of Dover are delivering a £250m game changing regeneration as part of their Western Docks revival – their single biggest investment ever. Barbara will be joining this session to give an update on the next stages of the Western Docks development and an overview of important role the port development play in kick-starting the regional economy in a post Brexit and pandemic world.
