Future Development Plans – Rochdale; Sponsored by Rochdale Development Agency

The plans for investment and development in Rochdale is truly transformative.

This webinar will provide insight into plans to develop 8,000 new homes and 4 million sq ft of new employment floor space in Rochdale over the next five years.

These proposals form part of Rochdale Borough Council’s ambitious growth plans which will reshape Rochdale as a place to live, work, connect and visit. Rochdale Development Agency is working with public and private sector partners to deliver these projects and others in Rochdale.

The RDA is keen to hear from investors and developers who share our vision for the future of Rochdale and want to know more about the opportunities available in the borough.

These two projects will be shown by two presentations before a Q&A session with the panelists and our audience.

11:45-12:00 Doors Open & Networking

12:00-13:00 Rochdale’s Transformational Plans – Rail Corridor and Town Centre

Rochdale Borough Council and Rochdale Development Agency have begun implementing their plans to redevelop land around five railway stations in the borough to create 7,000 homes, 2.5 million sq ft of employment space and an £11 million cycle corridor. The proposals unlock a number of sites for investment along the Calder Valley corridor, the majority of which will be on brownfield land and developed alongside new commercial and leisure opportunities. The first large scheme is at Station Gateway in Rochdale town centre which has been chosen by Capital & Centric as the site for the launch of their Neighbourhood affordable housing concept.

13:15-14:15 Rochdale’s Transformational Plans – South Heywood

South Heywood is a strategic site next to Junction 19 of the M62 where new development led by Russell Homes will bring new jobs, homes and improved highways infrastructure to the local area. Russell Homes have worked with the RDA and the council on the project which will provide 1.5 million sq ft of employment space, 2,400 jobs and 1,000 new family homes, as well as a new district centre, primary school, park and other community facilities. Work is underway on the link road to connect the site to the motorway network with construction of the first buildings due to commence in 2021.

Rochdale Borough Council – John Searle, Director of Economy Director of Economy and Property

John will speak about the importance of this project to the wider RDA vision and what benefits it will bring to Rochdale.

WSP – Sandra Robinson, Associate Director Strategic Growth

Sandra will discuss WSP’s role in the Station Gateway vision including their role in identifying the potential for this scheme through the Calder Valley Railway study and helping Rochdale bid for regeneration funding through the government’s towns fund.

Latimer Developments – Adam Wisher, Senior Development Manager

Latimer revel in taking disused buildings and land and transforming them into high quality residential developments. Whether it be the exciting Cocoa Works and its adjacent 11 acre brownfield project in York or the 1800 home 13 acre site between the River Aire and Kirkstall in Leeds city centre, Latimer (part of the Clarion Housing Group) are in the planning stages of delivering thousands of new homes. As part of this event, Adam will delve into their plans, project timelines and contribution to enhancing communities in Yorkshire and country wide.

 

Taylor Wimpey – Nikki Waud, Land and Planning Manager

: Nikki will join the panel to discuss what attracted Taylor Wimpey to invest in Rochdale and the opportunities to deliver homes and help create future communities in the town alongside RDA and Rochdale Council.

Capital & Centric – Tim Heatley, Co-Founder

Capital & Centric are ‘re-writing the rules on town centre living’ with their latest plans in Bolton. C&C are planning to create “Neighbourhood Bolton” and are bringing forward plans for the first few areas on 6.2 acres of brownfield sites in and around Bradshawgate. Neighbourhood Bolton is set to regenerate the area around the town’s train and bus stations with the aim of being a catalyst that kick-starts wider regeneration of the whole area. Tim is leading on C&C’s ambitions and will join the conference to outline this scheme as well as the positive progress they’ve been making on their schemes in Wigan, Stockport, and Manchester.

Arup – Jane Healey Brown, Director for Planning

Jane will discuss Arup’s role in the South Heywood vision where they have provided strategic advice for the infrastructure and planning policy requirements, working with the developers involved in the South Heywood scheme as well as the council to help them deliver their aspirations.

Broadway Malyan – Danny Crump, Director of Urbanisation

Danny will join the panel to discuss Broadway Malyan’s involvement in helping Rochdale Council and RDA’s placemaking ambitions with social value and community building forming a major part of the vision.

Russell WBHO – Daniel Kershaw, Director

Russell WBHO have worked with the RDA and the council on the South Heywood project which will provide 1.5 million sq ft of employment space, 2,400 jobs and 1,000 new family homes, as well as a new district centre, primary school, park and other community facilities. Rochdale Council – Cllr John Blundell, Regeneration Portfolio Holder

Rochdale Council’s Calder Valley Railway Corridor Masterplan is a leading example of how the development of transport infrastructure can facilitate major development and regeneration. Under the plan, there will be a redevelopment of the borough’s five railway stations followed by the delivery of 7,000 new homes and 250,000 sq m of employment space along the Calder Valley railway corridor. The project is estimated to cost around £4.5bn to deliver and will also feature a new £11m cycle corridor.
