This virtual South Coast Development Conference is set to burrow into the biggest challenges and major opportunities across the South Coast – with a big focus on driving investment, development and regeneration across the region.

12:35-12:55 (Breakout Session) Powerfuel Portland – Dorset's Energy Solution

Powerfuel Portland is proposing to deliver an Energy Recovery Facility (ERF) at Portland Port in a £100 million investment. Using tried and tested technology, the proposed ERF will be capable of exporting around 15MW of partially renewable low carbon energy, enough to power around 30,000 homes in the region.

We’re set to have an exceptional line-up of speakers who’ll be sharing intel into their future development projects, plans and vision for across the South Coast. Here’s an overview of the confirmed speakers:

St Modwen – David McGougan, Senior Development Director

David will be discussing their latest plans to create an 11.3-acre business park in Basingstoke with work expected to start on three speculative units totalling 200,000 sq ft in the second quarter of 2020. Alongside this David will also talk about plans for a new retail development on the site of the former Debenhams store in Farnborough. The plans for the site in Kingsmead involve demolishing part of the old Debenhams and replacing it with a mix of shops and flats over 10 floors.

 

BCP Council – Chris Shephard, Development Director

The regeneration of Poole town centre is set to be one of the major projects on the South Coast with the masterplan outlining how the regeneration will “pull the town around.” BCP Council is also looking to buy land on Holes Bay which could lead to the development of 800 new homes over the coming years.

Portsmouth City Council – Natascha McIntyre Hall, Assistant Director, Strategic Developments

Natascha is heading up the team behind the impressive £1bn, 4000 home community of Lennox Point in Portsmouth. More than simply a place to live, their eco conscious approach to delivery will see the creation of a major marine employment hub creating thousands of jobs and will be underpinned by a “car free” approach. She joins the conference to talk about bringing their vision to life and what she is looking for from built environment organisations in regards to collaboration in the coming years as well as revealing plans for the city centre regeneration of Portsmouth.

Powerfuel Portland – Steven McNab, Director

Steven will reveal more about this £100 million project that’s set to help Portland’s economic growth over the coming decades. As well as powering around 30,000 homes the scheme will help contribute to local sustainability projects, local electrical power issues and Dorset’s waste issues.

Dover District Council – Lois Jarrett, Head of Planning, Regeneration and Development

Lois is leading on the development of Dover’s local plan and whilst this wont be ready to discuss formally, Lois can talk about the economic and social drivers behind the plan and share the timetable that Dover are working to.

Portsmouth Water – Helen Orton, Director

Portsmouth Water is planning to create a new reservoir in Hampshire to secure reliable drinking water for years to come. As well as providing reliable supplies for the water-stressed South East, it would also create a new green, leisure facility for local communities. Helen will reveal more about this £100 million project and how to get involved with this scheme.

THAT Group – Peter Tisdale, Chief Executive Officer

That Group are lighting up the South Coast with their latest hotel developments in Bournemouth and Portsmouth. Their Portsmouth Point project will be split across two towers Portsmouth Point will boast approximately 170 residential apartments as well as a 165 bed Hampton by Hilton. In Bournemouth they are redeveloping The Echo, an important Art Deco building, built in 1932. Once finished this 65,000 sq.ft, building will feature an extended food and drink offering and a workspace as well as bedroom accommodation on the upper floors. Peter will be on hand to discuss their schemes and the role they are playing in revitalising the South Coast.

Vivid Homes – Mike Shepherd, Development Director

Vivid are Hampshire’s largest affordable home developer and have a pipeline to develop 17,000 new homes over the next 10 years. Mike will reveal more details about these schemes and how Vivid are committed to delivering parts of these developments using modern methods of construction.

 

 

Manydown – Andrew Reynolds, Project Director

Manydown will be a thriving new community of up to 3,520 new homes, two new primary schools, land for a new secondary school plus a new 250 acre country park near Basingstoke. The new garden community is set to be delivered in a unique partnership between Basingstoke and Deane Borough Council and Hampshire County Council, as landowners, and Urban&Civic, supported by the Wellcome Trust. Andrew will be on hand to give more details on the latest phases of this massive scheme for the region.
