Sustainable Energy Development Plans

Friday, 2nd July 2021 1345hrs – 1530hrs

The purpose of this webinar is to bring into focus on the role the built environment must play to bring forward clean energy generation projects to help abate the climate emergency.

Whether it be solar, wind, tidal or nuclear power, billions are being spent by investors, developers, and power providers to change the way regeneration is supported. This webinar brings together project leads who are behind some of the most exciting energy related capital projects to share details of their schemes, the impact they will have on supporting development ambitions across the UK.

Speakers for this event include:

Marija Simpraga,
Infrastructure Strategist
Antony Green,
Hydrogen Project Director
Temeeka Dawson,
Onshore Wind Policy Manager
  • National Grid – National Grid is one of the world’s largest publicly listed utilities, supplying gas and electricity to millions of customers and communities. In keeping with the UK’s zero carbon targets, the energy provider is using Net Zero development funding to finance a portfolio of projects. One major project the National Grid is exploring is the development of a hydrogen ‘backbone’, which aims to connect industrial clusters around the country, with the potential to create a 2000km hydrogen network for the UK by approximately 2030.
  • Legal & General Investment Management – Legal & General Investment Management (LGIM) acts as the asset-management arm of Legal & General Group. With the aim of creating a better future via responsible investing, the investment giant has a number of assets across the sustainable energy sector. From wind and solar farms to electric car batteries, LGIM are working on a number of projects to create a more sustainable future. Infrastructure Strategist, Marija Simpraga joins us to discuss several major projects and how they can contribute to a net-zero built environment.
  • The Scottish Government – The Scottish Government have remained committed to onshore wind as the lowest-cost new-build electricity generation in the UK. Providing a significant contribution to the renewables sector and helping Scotland towards their ambitious target of meeting 100% of the nation’s electricity demand from renewable sources. Current figures show that in 2020, 97.4% of Scotland’s electricity consumption was met by clean power, an increase of 60.4% from when targets were set back in 2011. The onshore wind sector in Scotland looks to expand as negotiations with developers are ongoing regarding the installation of new turbines that would stand around 820ft from the ground to the tip of their blades.
