Slough Borough Council – Shabnam Ali, Service Lead for Economic Development

Slough Borough Council are working closely with a number of developers on a £3bn scheme to transform Slough Town Centre. As the lead for economic development, Shabnam can give an insight into how the transformation will assist the housing crisis, and bring more revenue into the area alongside the purchase of the old university site; which will be used to build up to 1,300 houses and bring up to £550 million in income.

Thames Valley LEP work in consultation with major developers and local councils in order to increase economic growth and innovation within the Thames Valley region. To date they have secured and allocated £182m of UK and European public funds to deliver a wide range of initiatives in the Thames Valley Berkshire area. Alongside London, the area is the UK’s economic powerhouse. The LEP covers Reading, Wokingham, Slough, Bracknell and Maidenhead, and as Chief Executive, Alison will be able to give an insight on the impact of their recently implemented strategic economic plan.

Muse – Chris Scott, Development Director

Muse Developments are currently transforming the old Thames Valley University site in Slough which will provide 1,400 homes across a range of tenures, more than 250,000 sq ft of commercial space, 45,000 sq ft of ancillary leisure and retail, alongside 150,000 sq ft of cultural facilities and extensive public realm, which will all contribute significantly to the regeneration and development of Slough.

Swindon & Wiltshire LEP – Paddy Bradley, Chief Executive Officer

Fresh from the completion of the regeneration of the services at junction 16 of the M4 in order to complete the Wichelstowe Development, Swindon and Wiltshire LEP are working on other ways that they can improve the gateways into the Thames Valley region. Current ongoing developments include the regeneration of other junctions on the M4 to cope with growth across Swindon and developing new facilities for a new build Agricultural Centre as part of the development of Wiltshire College.

Swindon Borough Council – Emma Gee, Head of Town Centre Development

As Head of Town Centre Development, Emma will be able to explain how Swindon Borough Council’s local 2026 development plan will assist with placemaking in the Thames Valley. She will also be able to share insight into other projects currently underway in the region, and how these will enhance opportunities within the Swindon Borough.

 

Reading Borough Council – Councillor Tony Page, Deputy Leader

As Deputy Leader of Reading Borough Council, Tony will be able to share insight on the Reading Local Plan which guides development throughout the town up to 2036. This includes achieving a carbon neutral Reading by 2030. Tony will also be able to share thoughts on infrastructure development and regeneration throughout Reading.
