Thames Valley Corridor Development Conference

Slough Borough Council – Shabnam Ali, Service Lead for Economic Development

Slough Borough Council are working closely with a number of developers on a £3bn scheme to transform Slough Town Centre. As the lead for economic development, Shabnam can give an insight into how the transformation will assist the housing crisis, and bring more revenue into the area alongside the purchase of the old university site; which will be used to build up to 1,300 houses and bring up to £550 million in income.

 

 

Moorgarth Group – Tim Vaughan, Chief Executive Officer

Moorgarth Group are top level developers with ongoing projects throughout the country. With the current development of the Broad Street Mall in Reading, Moorgarth Group are looking to regenerate and bring life into Reading and the surrounding areas. Lincoln Property Company are the masterminds behind a wave of regeneration set to take place in Reading. Their Station Hill development is set to feature 1,200 homes and 10,000 sq ft of retail and leisure space. The development is set to cost around £60m and will also see the delivery of 600,000 sq ft of office space.

Thames Valley Berkshire LEP – Alison Webster, Chief Executive

Alongside London, the Thames Valley region is the UK’s economic powerhouse, contributing over £42.5bn in GVA to the national economy. The LEP agreed three Growth Deals with government, worth a capital investment of over £140m to implement its Strategic Economic Plan between 2015/16 to 2020/21. Under the plan, several major projects were allocated funding from the LEP, including the £19m Newbury Railway Station, the £20m Reading Green Park Railway Station, and the £10m Newbury Sandleford Park scheme. Alison joins us to share insight into the LEP’s economic development plans from 2022 onwards.

Muse – Chris Scott, Development Director

Muse are one of the UK’s most prominent developers, delivering projects with sustainability at the heart of what they do. They are active across the country with £2.6 billion in the pipeline of sustainable and net zero residential and commercial development. Chris co-authored Muse’s latest sustainability development strategy, which sets out challenging mandatory targets for all of Muse’s new schemes, including in the areas of net zero, social value and biodiversity and will join the conference to delve into their approach to sustainable and net zero developments.

Jansons Property – Andy Jansons, Managing Director

Jansons Property are highly experienced property developers and investors with projects that mainly cover the Thames Valley and London area. With multiple ongoing projects within the Thames Valley area, including the development of the Basingstoke Road plot in Reading, Andy will be able to talk about how the work that Jansons do will assist with placemaking and meeting the housing challenges in the Thames Valley region.

 

Swindon & Wiltshire LEP – Paddy Bradley, Chief Executive Officer

The Swindon and Wiltshire LEP is a business led partnership between the two Unitary councils of Swindon and Wiltshire, the Military, and the private sector. The SWLEP plays a vital role in determining local economic priorities and undertaking schemes and initiatives to drive inclusive economic growth. By 2026 they aim to make Swindon and Wiltshire renowned for innovation, entrepreneurialism, and a great quality of life.

Swindon Borough Council – Emma Gee, Head of Town Centre Development

As Head of Town Centre Development, Emma will be able to explain how Swindon Borough Council’s local 2026 development plan will assist with placemaking in the Thames Valley. She will also be able to share insight into other projects currently underway in the region, and how these will enhance opportunities within the Swindon Borough.

 

Reading Borough Council – Councillor Tony Page, Deputy Leader

As Deputy Leader of Reading Borough Council, Tony will be able to share insight on the Reading Local Plan which guides development throughout the town up to 2036. This includes achieving a carbon neutral Reading by 2030. Tony will also be able to share thoughts on infrastructure development and regeneration throughout Reading.
