The Construction Technology Conference

Ensure you’re aware of the latest innovations, trends and technology which will transform the construction and property industry over the coming years.

The construction sector has been earmarked as one of the main areas of the economy to kick start the UK’s fightback from the pandemic; with new rules and challenges ahead on and off site, ConTech is set to see vast acceleration in innovation and implementation.

At this conference we will be exploring the benefits of different areas of ConTech, and how they are being implemented in some of the biggest property and construction organisations building and developing in the UK. Argent – Claudine Blamey, Head of Sustainability and Digital Strategy

Argent is well-known for delivering some of the best mixed-use developments in the UK. The developers are always at the forefront in delivering smart technology and working within sustainability targets. With a number of ongoing projects, such as Tottenham Hale and Brent Cross Town, Claudine joins us to offer insight into the advancements Argent has made regarding construction technology and will highlight innovations that ensure their developments are sustainable and fit for our future cities.

 

Southern Housing Group – Jack Ostrofsky, Head of Quality and Design

Jack is the Project Chair of the ‘BIM for Housing Associations Project’ whose aim is to facilitate the accelerated adoption of consistent BIM processes within the social housing sector. The National Housing Federation is supporting the project and the UK BIM Alliance has adopted the project, which has participation of several of its active members. Jack will discuss how they are implementing it at the Southern Housing Group across their pipeline of over 300 homes and how the client can achieve ‘the golden thread.’

Winvic Construction – Morgan Hambling, VR Developer

Winvic Construction, contractor for industrial, build-to-rent, student accommodation and commercial projects launched its Centre for Innovative Construction (CIC) in 2019. Known as “The CAVE”, the centre is set up with a VR headset enabling the user to do a 4D walkthrough of their projects. Morgan will reveal more about Winvic’s innovative construction technology and their plans to use it going forward with clients like logistics developer Mountpark.

The Manufacturing Technology Centre (MTC) – Susan Hone-Brookes, Chief Engineer for Construction, Infrastructure and Energy

Susan is the Chief Engineer for Construction at the Manufacturing Technology Centre (MTC). Working in partnership with government, industry, academia and recognised institutions, Susan is developing and proving out innovative manufacturing and digital processes for adoption and take up by the UK Construction Industry. Susan will give more intel on the future of ConTech in the UK and how it can be adopted in the wider industry.

Arcadis – Ben Senior, Partner, Head for Digital Buildings

Planning and executing large-scale infrastructure, social and commercial developments grows more complex by the day. Bringing together multiple professional disciplines and managing the communications process is demanding and complex, especially when under acute time pressure. As one of Arcadis’s experts, Ben will be talking about what developments and innovations are needed to improve productivity, profit margins and the overall bottom line on construction projects.

 

QFlow – Brittany Harris, Chief Executive Officer

Brittany co-founded Qualis Flow in 2018 to work with construction teams to enable them to track and manage their social and environmental impact, and take a data driven approach to improving those areas. Their goals are to build an automated data collection/aggregation platform for construction projects, create the industry’s most comprehensive dataset on the socio-environmental impacts of construction activities, and utilize digital technology to eliminate the need for on-site environmental teams. Brittany will reveal more about their approach to data driven sustainability in construction and their work with the likes of HS2, Canary Wharf Group, Skanska and Sir Robert McAlpine.

AECOM – David Philp, Impact Director

David has been involved in delivering innovative digital change, BIM and digital asset management strategies across the globe from UK, Hong-Kong, Singapore, Australia and the Baltics.

He was seconded in the UK Cabinet Office in 2011 as Head of BIM Implementation and has been a key contributor to the UK public sector BIM mandate (GCS 2011-2016) and continues to support this through his role as Impact Director at the Construction Innovation Hub.  He was also seconded into the Scottish Future Trust (SFT) as Chair of the Scottish BIM Delivery Group. Additionally, David is Vice Chair of the Construction Scotland Innovation Centre as well as being Director for Digital Consulting, Strategy and Innovation at AECOM Europe.

A Fellow of the ICE, RICS and CIOB he is a visiting professor at Middlesex University and honorary professor at Heriot Watt University. David is also a member of the BSI BIM Standards Committee.

 

Digital Node – Rebecca De Cicco, Director

Rebecca’s aim is to work hard to support the Construction Industry in the uptake and education surrounding Building Information Modelling (BIM), Digital Construction and Digital Engineering Methods. The roots of Digital Node lie in the UK but now operates globally to support a variety of differing clients in this ideology which has led to Rebecca winning construction awards in the UK and Australia. Rebecca will give a thought leadership perspective on how Digital Construction and BIM can help our industry meet future demand for development.

Built Environment Networking – Amanda Griffiths, Director

Amanda is one of the Co-Founder’s of Built Environment Networking – formed almost 10 years ago.

She’ll be hosting throughout the day, running the days proceedings and managing the interaction between our delegates and the speakers.

IBM – Paul Surin, Global Lead BIM & Built Environment

Paul has a successful track record of innovating and transforming business models challenged by new technologies in housebuilding, building services and development. He has extensive knowledge of virtual design, lean construction, blockchain, AI, MMC, manufacturing processes and industry 4.0. He will provide his perspective on construction and development’s future challenges.

 

UKRI – Sam Stacey, Challenge Director, Transforming Construction

UKRI is taking the lead in the UK’s retrofitting and decarbonisation drive and is responsible for distributing significant funding to enable decarbonisation projects. £171 million was recently awarded to 9 industrial retrofitting and decarbonisation projects, with this investment set to be matched by another £250 million from industry. Projects to be funded include schemes to capture and store CO2 that was previously emitted from manufacturing and industrial plants in Scotland, Teesside and on the Humber Estuary.
