Transport For The North: The Full Rail Vision; Sponsored by Shoosmiths

This event will delve into the rail infrastructure plans proposed by Transport for the North – revealing inside intel, innovative ideas and thought leadership.

Transport for the North have recently announced its preferred route for the £42bn Northern Powerhouse Rail project with a 2024/2025 start date for construction now in sight. In 2021, the Integrated Rail Plan will be published by the UK Government and this will provide a useful backdrop to the work that TFN and the DFT have been jointly undertaking to deliver the strategic outline case. This plan will have been published or will be imminent at the time of this webinar.

This session will bring you TfN leadership to provide an update on the Integrated Rail Plan and discuss collaboration, regeneration and economic growth initiatives that will take precedent as they speed towards putting shovels in the ground on one of the most important projects in the North of England.

  • Transport for the North – As the lead regional voice behind the £39bn Northern Powerhouse Rail scheme which plays the key part in the overall £70bn levelling up agenda for the North, Tim joins this session to unveil new details about Transport for the North’s future rail vision. He will touch on topics such as timeline for delivering a new line between Liverpool and Manchester (via Warrington), improving connectivity for Sheffield to Leeds, electrification of the Leeds to Hull route and the restoration of the Leamside Line.
  • Shoosmiths – David is a Partner in Shoosmiths’ Planning and Environment team and has over 10 years’ experience of working on major infrastructure projects and town centre regeneration schemes across the country.  He has particular experience of advising private and public sector clients on infrastructure consents, regularly leading teams of professionals from multiple disciplines through all aspects of the land assembly and consenting process.  He is acutely aware of the importance of connectivity between places and the advancement this can bring having worked on a number of transformational highways schemes in the recent past, working with local highway authorities and Highways England to maximise the benefits delivered by new and improved transport infrastructure provision.
  • West Yorkshire Combined Authority – The arrival of Northern Powerhouse Rail and HS2 will transform the Leeds City region economically. West Yorkshire Combined Authority are laying the groundwork for the development of both while also proposing the development of a West Yorkshire light rail project. James joins the webinar to talk about the preparations that are being done behind the scenes and how they’re collaborating with other northern stakeholders to bring forward each scheme.
  • ATKINS – Cara joined Atkins as Client Director, Network Rail (Eastern) in October 2020, following a long career in railway and wider transport sector consultancy across the UK and Australia. Cara promotes transport industry growth and modernisation, with a view to providing advice and assistance in implementing innovative technological, safety and sustainability solutions and enabling more efficient and effective project delivery to the benefit all transport users.
