Wales Development Conference; Sponsored by Andrew Scott

This event will focus on future development, regeneration and investment taking place across Wales.

The development sector in Wales is increasingly vibrant.

Multi-national developers and blue chip organisations are choosing the country as a base for their schemes, and it’s clear to see why. The focus on the Western Gateway connecting South Wales with the South West of England, and multiple transformational projects in cities like Cardiff, Swansea and Newport are acting as catalysts for growth. And there is also exciting schemes being proposed across Mid and North Wales.

This conference will delve into the future ambitions and vision with the leading voices sharing their knowledge and inside intel. 10:15-11:00 Session One: Transport for Wales; Their Role in Economic Growth and Prosperity

We will hear from Transport for Wales who will provide an overview of their activities in Wales and the role that they play in supporting and facilitating economic growth. Lee will also go into detail about the proposed Metro scheme in North Wales. The session will combine a presentation with a discussion and an opportunity to ask questions.

We’re set to have an exceptional line-up of speakers who’ll be sharing intel into their future development projects, plans and vision for across Wales. Here’s an overview of the confirmed speakers:

Welsh Government – Ian Williams, Deputy Director of Homes & Places

With on of the most expansive and ambitious housing development targets in the British isles, Welsh government are in the midst of a major housebuilding programme and are stopping at nothing to deliver the 20,000+ extra homes needed within the next five years. As part of this session, Ian will talk in depth about how he is working to encourage housebuilding through public and private sector collaboration and will also touch on different innovations for delivery including MMC.

Ian is the senior civil servant managing the Regeneration function in Wales.  He also has responsibility for the supply of Affordable Housing, the Welsh Housing Quality standard, Innovative Housing, Health and Housing, Help to Buy and Low cost home ownership.

He spent twenty years as an Oil Company Executive with Shell International before joining the Welsh Government in 2006.  Prior to joining Shell he spent some time as a pop singer and a television presenter in Wales. Ian is originally from Bethesda in North Wales and is a fluent Welsh speaker.

EDAROTH – Mark Powell, Managing Director

A subsidiary business of Atkins – a member of the SNC Lavalin Group, the firm provides end-to-end development solutions with focus on delivering social and affordable housing at the point of need. This approach prioritises brownfield and under-utilised land within existing communities which are often considered too difficult or expensive to develop, and sees the landowner typically retain the land, assets and ongoing rentland income. EDAROTH brings together design and engineering expertise, the latest off-site manufacturing techniques and construction partnerships to deliver new houses at speed, volume and at a significantly reduced cost compared to traditional new builds.

 

Pembrokeshire County Council – Rachel Moxey, Head of Economic Development & Regeneration

Pembrokeshire County Council have multiple ongoing and upcoming regeneration and development plans including the regeneration of South Quays into a vibrant modern heritage hub. As head of economic development and regeneration, Rachel will be able to share insight into the plans, including how they will impact the area positively, alongside the ongoing regeneration of Haverfordwest.

Andrew Scott – Mark Bowen, Managing Director

Andrew Scott Ltd is one of Wales’s most established construction companies. For 150-years we have successfully contributed to the Wales and UK built environment, delivering innovation, high-quality and sustainable projects in the most demanding sectors. They are major local employer providing knowledge and experience from their 240+ strong workforce, which operates from their head quarters in Margam and Bristol office.

As Managing Director Mark is well placed to provide an over view of the construction sector in Wales and is a tireless advocate of tackling poor procurement practices for decades.  His expertise and knowledge on procurement including retention release and risk allocation has been invaluable in advising industry

Mark sits on CBI Construction Council in London and the Wales CBI Council and is Vice Chair of CECA Wales. Recently Mark was appointed to the Board of Cyfla the multi award winning reginal Shared Apprenticeship Scheme and also sits on the board of HeCW. Mark also sits on the Welsh Construction Forum Group.

Cartrefi Conwy – Katie Clubb, Managing Director

Cartrefi Conwy provide over 3800 homes across North Wales, with further development plans in the pipeline. These plans include the development of 350 zero carbon homes, in an attempt to revolutionise the social housing market in North Wales. Katie will be able to share insight into these plans, and others in the pipeline, alongside discussing what the challenges facing the housing sector in Wales are, and what the solutions may be.

Transport for Wales – Lee Robinson, North Wales Development Director

Transport for Wales are a key component of levelling up across the country. In North Wales and have a multitude of projects coming forward to help drive regeneration ambitions. These include multi-million-pound projects at Wrexham General and Shotton Station by 2024, co-funding new buildings at Blaenau Ffestiniog or working with train operators to increase services into rural communities and across the border into Northern England. Lee joins the event to talk in depth about major infrastructure requirements allied to the growth deal.

Amanda is one of the Co-Founder’s of Built Environment Networking – formed almost 10 years ago.

She’ll be hosting throughout the day, running the days proceedings and managing the interaction between our delegates and the speakers.
