WEBINAR: Skills – Developing Tomorrow’s Workforce

Over the coming months we’ll be hosting a series of webinars – helping to keep the industry moving and talking during a period of uncertainty, enabling people to talk and build relationships whilst helping to maintain industry confidence and demonstrating thought leadership.

This webinar will focus on skills – developing tomorrow’s workforce.

Do we have sufficient skills to develop and regenerate the UK to keep pace with our growing economy? Are we addressing the need to change our process and develop more modern construction techniques and how do we attract and develop our young people into our future workforce? For this webinar, which is crucial to the continued success of the industry, we invite speakers from Industry, Universities, Colleges and Councils to talk about what they are doing to deliver tomorrow’s workforce.

This event will run in a similar manner to all of our physical events – with short presentations from several key speakers and opportunities for live Q&A and interaction.

Speakers for this event include:

  • Pagabo – Gerard Toplass and Pagabo are at the forefront of this ongoing discussion regarding skills and in particular developing the skills for tomorrow’s workforce. Gerard will talk about the work that Pagabo are undertaking on this topic and how he feels that the industry should be responding to address the skills gap both in the short term and also for the future.
  • CIOB – Ros is responsible for managing the CIOB’s regulated qualifications and exams and works as part of the team that attracts students into the industry and helps define the skills that are required for our industry leaders of tomorrow.
  • Clarion Housing Group – Ayo sits on the CIOB’s EQSP board (Education, Qualifications, Standards & Practice) and he is well versed on how best to tackle the Construction Industry Skills Shortage. He will share his views on what the industry needs to do more of to address the skills shortage and also relate this to the pressures that they face at Clarion Housing in delivering their portfolio of work.
  • CITB – The CITB supports the needs of the British Construction Industry and they work with industry to encourage training, which helps build a safe, professional and fully qualified workforce. Mark will provide an update on their activities with regard to identifying the skills for tomorrow’s workforce balanced with the current challenges created by Brexit and Covid19.
  • The Open University – Nick will talk about the skills gap and also a concept that the worker/skill shortage is not the problem but rather a symptom of a much larger problem of the construction sector not evolving through the years as well as other growth industries.
