WEBINAR: Developing & Building Future Cities

Tuesday, 2nd June 2020 1400hrs – 1500hrs

Over the coming months we’ll be hosting a series of webinars – helping to keep the industry moving and talking during a period of uncertainty, enabling people to talk and build relationships whilst helping to maintain industry confidence and demonstrating thought leadership.

This webinar will focus on developing and building cities for the future.

There is a desire by many to develop smart and sustainable cities – with data and technology holding the potential to drive economic growth. In an environmentally-conscious future, that has a growing population, the rise of automation and growing dependence on technology means our cities must adapt to facilitate smart cities which sustain the needs and demands of its citizens – but that change needs to happen today.

And in this webinar we’ll hear from those central to that future ambition.

This event will run in a similar manner to all of our physical events – with short presentations from several key speakers and opportunities for live Q&A and interaction.

Speakers for this event include:

Andrew Carter,
Chief Executive
Miranda Sharp,
Chief Executive Officer
Theo Blackwell,
Chief Digital Officer
Davina Fell,
Digital Infrastructure Programme Manager
  • Centre for Cities – The UK’s economy is driven by the success of its largest cities and towns, which generate opportunities and prosperity for people in all parts of the country. The Centre for Cities’ mission is to help the UK’s largest cities and towns realise their economic potential. Andrew will give a thought leadership perspective on the development of future cities and the sector’s response to Covid-19.
  • Special Appointment to the Mayor of London – Following on from his keynote address at the Developing Cities for the Future Conference in February 2020, Theo Blackwell will update us on London’s response to the Covid 19 crisis and how it could change our thinking when developing future cities. Theo is currently in charge of overseeing all of the changes being put in place now which are likely to become the platform for “business-as-usual” working practices for many months to come. Appointed in 2017 as London’s first Chief Digital Officer, Theo leads on London-wide digital transformation, data and smart city initiatives at City Hall.
  • London Borough of Southwark – Digital infrastructure is fundamental to making smart cities a reality. Councils face challenges in making connectivity ubiquitous so that everyone benefits and one of Southwark’s biggest projects has been connecting their residents as one of the largest council housing landlords in the UK, with 52,000 properties. Davina will reveal more about the London Borough of Southwark’s future projects and reflect on how the current testing times will influence Smart Cities looking forward.
  • Centre for Digital Built Britain – ‘Setting a framework for the National Digital Twin’ the Centre for Digital Built Britain is a partnership between the Department of Business, Energy & Industrial Strategy and the University of Cambridge to understand how the construction and infrastructure sectors could use a digital approach to better design, build, operate, and integrate the built environment.
