Future Development Plans – South West Infrastructure

Wednesday, 2nd September 2020 1330hrs – 1530hrs

The Government has committed to unprecedented spend on developing the UK’s infrastructure unlocking new economic corridors across the UK and providing much needed connectivity between and within the country’s regions.

Much of this investment will take place in the South West, with improvements to road, rail and more – especially with the focus on the Western Powerhouse which looks to create a thriving corridor between South Wales and the South West.

We will hear from some of the region’s leading infrastructure providers as to how their model works, and the return they can see on their investment. We will also hear from those who will benefit from this investment – councils and developers whose schemes become viable once the new network is in place, and what sites could be unlocked for development

Speakers for this event include:

Tim Laverye,
Route Asset Management
Geoff Brown,
Chair of Peninsula Transport and Portfolio Holder for Transport
Jessica Jones,
Development Manager
  • Network Rail – Tim is responsible for Network Rail’s investment and development in the region. He will talk about their current and upcoming schemes, where they plan to invest in the future, ideas behind these schemes and how they will unlock economic growth.
  • Cornwall County Council – Peninsula Transport is a partnership created by the five lead transport authorities in the South West Peninsula. It works directly with the Department for Transport and other partners on the strategic transport priorities for the region. They are working to produce a comprehensive transport strategy for the region, and Geoff will discuss the major projects they are supporting.
  • Network Rail Property – Jessica will discuss the Bristol Temple Meads masterplan, a 20 year project in conjunction with Bristol City Council, Homes England and the University of Bristol. The project will see a remodelling of the station, doubling of passenger capacity and regeneration of the 70 hectares of the surrounding land. She will set out their vision for the landmark development and how it will progress over the coming years.
