Speakers


Ed Ellerington, Director; Grainger Plc

Having joined Grainger plc in 2010 to support the building of the company’s corporate finance and fund management divisions, Ed is now responsible for Grainger’s PRS investment drive into the UK regions. A chartered banker with over 10 years’ cross border experience in financial services, focused predominantly in real estate backed corporate banking, private equity and fund management, Ed is also a former Lombard Scholar and Freeman of London.

In 2014, Ed completed an executive MBA at Regensburg University in Germany focusing on UK residential backed investment products.


Martin Farrington, Director of City Development; Leeds City Council

Martin Farrington has worked in Local Government for more than 25 years and is the Director of City Development at Leeds City Council with responsibility for the physical, economic and cultural development of the city. In 2014 he was awarded Property Personality of the Year at the Yorkshire Property Awards and is a Fellow of the Royal Institute of Chartered Surveyors.

His recent work has included overseeing proposals for Leeds South Bank, the development of Sovereign Square, the delivery of the First Direct Arena and the Council’s support for the Victoria Gate Scheme which has delivered a new John Lewis to Leeds.

 

Angela Barnicle, Head of Asset Management; Leeds City Council

Angela has a passion for cities, economic development and with it delivering transformational change and growth. She is a Commercial Practice Surveyor, RICS assessor and Registered Valuer, having dealt with all aspects of commercial property she now focuses on delivering estate transformation and strategic development.

As a Director at Deloitte she has worked extensively across the UK advising both the public and private sector on real estate matters, organisational design and place positioning.  She now leads the Asset Management team at Leeds City Council, having joining in 2017. Here Angela focuses on delivering optimum corporate real estate solutions and realising the development opportunities for this international city at the heart of the Northern Powerhouse.

Angela is leading the LCC team for South Bank – the largest city centre regeneration scheme in Europe, which will double the size of the city centre.


Chris Thompson, Managing Director; CITU

Chris is driven and committed to changing the way we design and construct buildings and configure our towns and cities through creating innovate, forward thinking and sustainable places.

He is passionate about generating a positive ripple effect in the industry to enable further sustainable development and helping to accelerate the transition to a zero carbon world.

 

Iain Thomson, Associate Director; Harworth Group

Iain Thomson joined Harworth in September 2013 and has responsibility for communications, strategic partnerships and the company’s input into national policy matters. Iain has held a number of policy and service improvement roles in both the private and public sectors and previously worked at Doncaster Council.  He also holds a non-Executive Director position at Flying Futures CIC, a Doncaster-based Social Enterprise that delivers sports, arts and diversionary programmes for young people. He won the 2015 LSH Enterprise Award for his work on the Advanced Manufacturing Innovation District concept and is a graduate of both Sheffield and Warwick Universities.

 

David Hodgson, Regional Head of Strategic Development, CEG

Over the last 12 years, David has managed CEG’s Northern Development Team, building a portfolio of more than 20 sites, our £350million proposals for South Bank, Leeds, a significant Manchester City Centre development site and our £400million Kirkstall Forge development where we recently opened a new railway station and are on site delivering a new commercial, retail, leisure and residential community.

The team has created a strategic land portfolio capable of delivering in the region of 60,000 new homes and recently secured planning permissions for our residential sites across Harrogate Borough and a resolution for the former paper mill site in Oughtibridge, Sheffield.
