Another scheme in Lincoln has been lodged to develop student accommodation in the heart of the City. The plans, which would see 1,368 student flats being created, would be a huge boost for the number of beds in the city as the University of Lincoln continues to thrive and drive students to study in the area.

The plans have now been submitted and if they are approved work is likely to start as quickly as November this year – with a completion date of 2022. The project would be the first major scheme in the £150m St Marks redevelopment – a wider scheme which will see £150m regeneration of St Marks Shopping Centre, retail, leisure, parking, flats and a hotel – creating up to 2,000 new jobs.

The development, which will have 1,368 student residences, would have a phased approach with completion of those phases between 2020 and 2022.

The University of Lincoln, who will be speaking about their estate and property plans at the Lincolnshire Development Plans Conference in July, have welcomed the proposal by Aberdeen Standard Investments with a spokesperson saying: ”Students are at the heart of everything that we do at the University of Lincoln and we’re committed to providing a total learning experience which includes ensuring high quality student accommodation. The location of this development is perfect for the campus and we are confident that the developer shares our ethos and beliefs about enhancing every element of the student experience.”

David Stewart of developers Aberdeen Standard Investments added: ”Submitting this planning application with the University of Lincoln’s support is a major endorsement of our plans and a key step on the road to delivering our vision for a revitalised St Marks.”
