The development of secondary schools and care homes are set to be amongst some of the key priorities for Bournemouth Council over the next three years. The council are set to submit a Capital Strategy and Action Plan to members later this month which identifies £245m for investment into schools and care homes and more in a bid to boost enhance education in the region and deliver high-quality care services.

The plans are set to be a talking point of the Bournemouth Development Plans Conference, where we welcome Bill Cotton; Head of Economy and Environment at Bournemouth Borough Council. We’ll also be hearing from Michael Bibring, Director of Fresh Lime Developments and Julian McLaughlin, Head of Growth and Infrastructure at Poole Borough Council with more set to be announced soon.

The Capital Strategy and Action Plan is set to highlight key areas where the authority will look to invest and develop over the next 3 years – and the highlighted investment to schools and care homes will see the council ‘working with partners to deliver more secondary school places’ and the development of new state of the art dementia care homes.

Also mentioned in the report is the desire of the authority to ‘bring forward more town centre vision schemes’ such as commercial and residential builds on the Winter Gardens site, as well as car parks on Bath Road, St Stephens Road and Durley Road as the council have highlighted 16 owned sites for development in the town centre.

Councillor Phillip Broadhead, Cabinet Member for Economic Development, said of the plans ”In the town centre almost £300m has been invested in the past three years. It’s going to be an exciting year for the borough.”

Investing in property across the South Coast town is also a priority for Bournemouth Borough Council as they look to develop a regular rental income, acquire land to provide employment space such as that at Wessex Fields, and generally improve the seafront. He said: ”We’re purchasing suitable property assets via the investment strategy as well, which has been very successful to date and something we’ll look to continue in the future. We’re investing in the future and the next generation will have the benefits of those assets.”

The strategy and action plan will go before full council on February 21st for final approval.
