Land earmarked for Phase 2b of HS2, connecting the line to Leeds Station and the Northern Powerhouse Rail network, has been announced by HS2 Minister Andrew Stephenson.

The announcement will safeguard the site in Leeds city centre and the developer of the site has been made aware of the plans.

Andrew Stephenson said: “By protecting the site now, the Government guards against potentially conflicting development which could otherwise disrupt the construction of HS2, as well as the risk of increased costs of building the new railway. This protects the public’s interest in spending taxpayer money in a proportionate fashion.”

Tim Wood, Director at Transport for the North and speaker at our upcoming Transport for the North: The Full Rail Vision Event, added: “This is a timely and sensible move. Both HS2 and Northern Powerhouse Rail (NPR) are vital for the future prosperity of the North and must be built in full. The will help to level-up the British economy and to build back better.”
