Plans have been submitted for by CERT Property for a £50m development which could transform an empty site next to Nottingham Railway Station into student and residential flats. The brownfield site in Crocus Street would house around 420 student beds with an additional 177 residential apartments in a move to continue the regeneration around the south of the city – and is set to be a feature of the Nottinghamshire Development Plans Event in March where CERT’s Manging Director will speak.
CERT Property, the developers behind the scheme, have submitted plans to the council, which will be have two U shaped blocks ranging up to eight floors. The ‘distinctly designed buildings’ will match their surroundings and will have a garden area in the centre to create a community feel. One of the blocks will consist of 177 privately owned rented flats – with a make-up of 70 two bedroom flats, 90 one bedroom flats and 17 stylish apartments. The second block, for student accommodation in the busy University city, will house 420 rooms.

Howard Lord, Managing Director of CERT and speaker at the Nottinghamshire Development Plans Event, said of the scheme: ”Nottingham is a city that is full of potential and our proposed scheme will play a pivotal role in the ongoing regeneration of the area. Its strategic location, as a gateway site to the city, means that it is important that we create an impressive landmark scheme that would set a new standard for the city. With its exceptional design and landscaped public realm areas, we believe that this scheme will make a fantastic addition to the future of city living in Nottingham.”

The proposed development is just one of many happening in the city at the moment – and if they come to fruition the local economy could boom. Broadmarsh bus station and plans to develop a pedestrianised shopping area moved a step forward last week as well as plans for Nottingham College to create a flagship campus which would act as a city hub for students and local businesses to thrive.
