The new £335m Royal Liverpool Hospital have confirmed that the new hospital will definitely go ahead, although robust contingency plans are in place as troubled construction firm Carillion confirmed it was going into compulsory liquidation. The build is one of several high profile projects currently being undertaken by Carillion, and due to financial difficulties the completion of the build is now uncertain after several delays have pushed back the completion date.

We’re excited to be hearing from the Royal Liverpool & Broadgreen University Hospitals at the Liverpool Development Plans Conference on the 8th February – with the uncertainty around the project likely to be a key talking point during their presentation.

When asked about the development the Royal Liverpool boss Aidan Kehoe said: ”The board are obviously concerned by the stability of Carillion, who also provide the hospital with maintenance and repair services, but we want to reassure people that the new Royal Liverpool hospital will go ahead as planned, and we have a range of options should there be any issues.”

The new hospital, which was initially planned to be opened in March 2017 although it’s uncertain when the hospital is now planned to open, will be set over 13 floors. The design allows light to pour into the building through a skylight, and with 650 single in-patient rooms with en-suite facilities it’s set to be the biggest single bedroom hospital in England. A cleverly crafter eight-shape design means no room will look onto the other, with gardens, a restaurant and more all part of the plans.
