The University College Dublin have released the latest images of their masterplan proposal – put forward by the shortlisted teams competing to design the final buildings. The designs, which have been compiled by the six shortlisted firms who’ve progressed to the final stages of the ‘Future Campus International Design Competition’, consist of artwork for two different initiatives which are the 60-acre Entrance Precinct masterplan and a new Centre for Creative Design building.

University College Dublin, who’re set to speak at our Republic of Ireland Development Plans Conference in September about their development and estate plans, have cut the list of firms down from 98 who originally applied for the competition down to six. Their vision for the masterplan is to create a ‘highly-visible and welcoming entrance precinct’ to introduce placemaking and establish an identify for the University.

The new masterplan includes a 90,000 sq ft Centre of Creative Design which will be the emblem of the University’s creative identity and be a real focus point within their estate.

Prof of Architecture at the University, Hugh Campell, said: ”We’re seeking an integrated design proposal that improves the experience of our campus for its users and that better connects us to our surroundings, orientating us outwards to the world and inviting our communities to engage with us.”

Other areas within the masterplan will look at improving the infrastructure and connectivity to the University and increasing permeability of the campus boundary. The University are now gaining feedback before announcing the winner in August just before our Republic of Ireland Development Plans Conference.
