Nottinghamshire Police Fire Rescue Blue Light Tri-Light Estates Merger Headquarters

Authority chiefs have backed plans to merge Nottinghamshire Police and Nottinghamshire Fire & Rescue headquarters, it has been announced. The creation of a new joint headquarters has now moved a step forward after detailed designs and costings have been given the thumbs up.

The announcement, ahead of the Blue Light Estates Development Conference which Nottinghamshire Fire & Rescue will be speaking at, comes at a time where Tri-Light Collaboration is a key focus of the industry – where a focus on creating new and technologically advanced facilities and consolidation of local estates is creating major new regeneration and development projects across the sector.

Sherwood Lodge, the current Police HQ, is the proposed location of the new joint HQ due to affordability and achievability. A more detailed proposed is now set to be mapped out before being submitted to the Fire Authority.

Police Commissioner Paddy Tipping welcomed the ‘highly-logical’ news: “This is what partnership working is all about. If these plans go ahead it will bring benefits for the staff, the two organisations and ultimately the taxpayers. This will see both services working together in a modern, efficient building that is fit for the foreseeable future.”

Terry Scott, Estates Manager at Nottinghamshire Fire & Rescue, will be presenting about the plans at the Blue Light Estates Development Conference. His colleague Cllr Brain Grocock, Chair of the Fire Authority, said: “Collaboration is a key objection for the Authority, both in terms of what it represents to the communities we serve and for ensuring that we strengthen the way we work with our blue-light partners. The prospect of a shared HQ with Nottinghamshire Police demonstrates our commitment to this priority and the next few months will be critical in ensuring the proposals meet the expectations of both services, as well as demonstrating the positive benefits for our communities.”

It’s expected to take 5 years to complete the HQ merger once approval has been grants – which will be discussed in February 2019.
